Weight Weenies

I'm planning to slam my stem.

Would love to see any pics of slammed stems here and know the sizes & brands of your conical spacers.
I'm thinking about going with a 15-10mm spacer under the stem. I already have a flush carbon top cap.

didn't use the bearings, just top cap. they won't sell you just the cap

It's not a conical spacer, it is the top cap from an integrated headset. Some after market ones are available but it may be just as well to buy a replacement headset with the so desired top cap - you tend to get taller ones and shorter ones.

You have your stem at which position is best for you. Slamming a stem as far down as possible just for the sake of it or just for looks or just for weight saving is silly. 'slamthestem.com' just reinforces how silly the idea is.

Doing it for the weight savings - "Silly"?! I thought this was weightweenies? ...seriously though, having a stem tilted up could save you some 20-30g in steerer + spacers. Also, in my own case with a stubby 115mm headtube, a big 20mm stack of spacers just looks horrible. The proportions just look crap. It works looks wise with tall headtubes, but an upside down stem looks way better slammed than with lots of spacers on small frames...

Also, did I mention 20-30g's of weight savings?

Here is my contribution......my LBS told me that this was as low as I could go "safely".

I really want to lose the spacers and just cut it down all the way.......just for the look and the weight savings

A bike is going to be fastest if it fits the best. For some people slamming their stem will give them the best fit, for others it won't. for example i am 5' 9" and have a 34" inseam. On a bike with a top tube length that fits me, if i slammed my stem i could only ride for probably half an hour before my back gave out, and i am 18. I would rather be able to ride for 4-5 hours. I have maybe 3cm of spacers, and still have 9cm of drop, so i am still aero. There are diminishing returns with going lower. And Sacrificing comfort for looks is just silly.
