SRAM news brewing...

If the rumor mill is not completely off, we should see a big announcement from SRAM this week. All circumstantial evidence, but seems to triangulate:
  • SRAM doesnt seem to deliver any more RED parts to team riders (from Tour Forum)
  • Are expected to announce a new mechanical system, dropping double tap (also from Tour Forum)
  • Some rumors about 11 speed and electronic coming later (from a buddy)
  • Arguably lightest weight of major manufacturers (so lighter than campy and shimano electric? (also from buddy)
  • Another buddy got told by SRAM to "keep eyes open this week"
Again, all circumstantial, but interesting :).

Cheers
Jever

Sram north America said to watch the news closely this week and confirmed something is dropping but didn't comment on any rumors

He's right if anything I have seen/heard is correct.
My girlfriend got some information out of a rather high up engineer for sram at the QBP party at interbike... He was rather drunk and let some stuff slip to keep eyes peeled for a brand new group from sram in late nov. (Weird time to release stuff though???) She did great and actually prodded him a little to try and find out details, but he was rather hush-hush when he realized she actually knows her stuff. He did say no electronic though...

On another note, from visiting the sram/truvativ crank development center in town, there is something brand new with the codename 'godfather' they have been testing. Haven't been able to see it, but they always make sure it is away before I swing by... :beerchug:

My bet: 11 speeds + hydraulic disc brakes option.

Good timing on their part. With Taichung bike week next week and camera phones being popular these days, they are doing the smart thing and doing it on their own terms.

Can only be a good thing. SRAM Red is looking tired these days compared to the other two.

My bet: Sram Red White. Exactly the same as before just white and 30% more expensive. I hope I'm Wrong

First SRAM Red Yellow then SRAM Red Black, could they get any more confusing?

At least we can be thankful that they haven't made SRAM Red Darker-than-indigo-but-not-as-dark-as-violet...

SRAM Red ROY G. BIV

I'm excited to see what this is, but do not like the idea of them moving away from double tap and to 11 speed. Hopefully either the rumor mill is wrong, or they're able to wow me. It's birthday week after all. Don't **** it up for me, SRAM!

Brilliant!

Yes -- my money's on 11. Not sure what's meant by abandoning double tap. I don't believe they'd do that.

One thing to consider is some of the early Shimano patents may have expired recently. But I don't see how that would affect SRAM's products. It might open the door for additional competitors, however.
