Looking at this rim (see pics), it looks to me as if it's starting to separate. You can feel the two sections when running your finger over it on the one rather easily and feel almost nothing on the other side.

I'm interested in what others might diagnose--

Relax....It won't separate....when spoked up and tensioned, there is some ridiculously high force holding it TOGETHER....it won't suddenly "open a gaping hole". Promise ;)

I'm assuming that is a pinned rim....not seamless welding and machined brake surface.

It's a rim from a c-4 wheel-- it looks to me like a kinlin 200 rim.

I was going to ask if that was a Kinlin.

It looks typical to me. If the seam is noticeable during braking you can use a flat stone or fine sandpaper (wrapped over something flat) to knock it down.

Isn't the Kinlin XR-200 rim pinned and not welded? if so, that seam would be a totally normal appearance.

Quite normal to see (and feel) that joint. Like already stated, once built you could cut throught the rim and the compression would keep it together.
