Thanks a lot Mark , the confusing bit (especially with Shimano) is that they don't clearly state the weights , with or without the cleats . The Speedplay website clearly give you the weights with the cleat weights separate .

My kitchenweight says 210 for the Speedplays.

SPD-SL cleats (and screws) are 72g.

If you look around you can find Ti screws.

Having owned both It's clearly Shimano over Speedplay for me.

One to Speedplay for the marketing.
One to Shimano for the maintenance free smooth bearings.
One to Speedplay for the marketing.
One to Shimano for cleats you can walk in and don't get fowled up if you walk in sand or Mud.

I'm leaning more and more in the Shimano direction too . I currently ride with the 105 pedals and cant fault them at all , but thinking of upgrading to Dura-Ace soon .

Have DA on my Lightweight NeilPryde and the 105 on my steel Orbea - ride is exactly the same only the weight differs. I have more than 6 months on every pedal system and favor Shimano over Time, Look, Speedplay and Campy.

+1 on the marketing part!

Been thru speed play with tons of issues like cleat screw loosening even with loctite, bearing failing with 6mths. Agent refuse to acknowledge and replace. This was a few years back.

One thing for sure, buy Speedplay & you will be PLAY OUT

Choice is yours :smartass:

i had Ultegra pedals which i didnt like as there was too much fiction in the float and i often found that my foot would kinda be restricted and held in a slightly uncortable angle (heel in) causing knee pain.

I changed to Speedplay zeros. To start with it was really weird feeling haveing so much float and completely resistant free. after a few rides they were great.

I have the stainless and cro mo ones and have covered thousands of miles including through out the winter in the UK without a single issue.

The stainless ones weighed 1gr more than the claimed weight.

I also had some problems with my knees using the Dura Ace pedals,so I changed to the speedplay light action
pedals.
At first they take a bit of getting used to mostly the float, after this they are great and no more pains in my knees.
I will never change back, just spend some money for the coffee covers which cover the cleats when you are off the bike
and your have no problems walking or getting them jammed with grit.

Don't use the Speedplays if you plan on using an adapter. This is where you see complaints about rocking. It is an outstanding pedal with four holes and a steel shim (legal threats to consumers not considered).

Have you considered Bebop?

Speedplay put the cleat on the bike and the pedal on the shoe.
Have never heard of anyone that had them that didn't absolutely love them.

I have Dura Ace 7900's on my CAAD. I used to ride SPD's before.
The SPD-L's are so much better for how I personally ride.

I know there are lighter options, but I wanted the quality and the worry-free operation that
Dura Ace Pedals are known for. I was set on a pair of 7810 (which I think are a tie with Campy
for the most beautiful pedals available), but when the carbon 7900's came out, it was a no brainer.
I had to get them. I can't compare them to Speedplays or any other premium pedal. I can only
report on how they perform for me. I get on my bike. I clip in. I ride hard. They are smooth as silk.
They don't make noise. They feel great when I hammer. I feel totally secured and connected to my
CAAD and like I'm one with it. When I need to clip out, no problem. They do what they are supposed
to do and they do it well.
