2010 or 2011 SR Rear Mech?

Guys.
I'm close to finishing a nice Addict / SR build.
The F&F is gloss black & white. I've gone for 2010 ergo levers & front mech as they weigh the same as the 2011 stuff but manage to avoid the garish red. Likewise the cranks; 2010 SR.
The bike will have Zipp bar & stem (gloss black & white) and Zipp wheels.
The only question is with the RM. 2010 or 2011?
The 2011 one is 10% lighter (155g vs 172g) but has that splash of red.
I know this is WW but which would you fit?
Assume the cost is irrelevant.
Cheers.

2010 shifters and rear derailleur if you're going to only look at the bike. 2011 if you're actually going to ride it. Not to be harsh, but why bother with high end, high cost parts if you're knowingly going to compromise performance for an imaginary aesthetic issue ?

WTF!!

i think you'd notice the difference between the 2011 and 2010 shifters mostly because the new indexing is more clicky, but i really don't think you'd notice the difference between the rear 'railers except on the scales.. if your not into the red and it won't match then get the 2010 they are cheaper any way..
the 2011 shifters are improved over the 2010 but the the 2010 set up is still pretty bloody nice and shifts like a dream!

The better shifting of the 2011 partly comes from the 2011 parallel spring. I'd choose the 2011 anytime but then again sr 2010 can be found cheap so if money is an issue.... (i'd go for record 2011 :-)

I'd definitely go for the 2011 version. The change of the spring in the rear derailleur does make a massive difference in shifting performance.

If you happen to like the 2010 styling more, it should not be too hard to get an upgrade on 2011 internals. I upgraded mine this year because I was slightly ... let's say "underwhelmed" by the shifting performance of the 2010 version. The 2011 modifications have turned it into the perfect group for me (coming from a DA 7800).

Indeed, as all other posters have stated, it would appear to be well accepted that the 2011 version has addressed many of the issues faced in the 2010 version. I would also go for the more recent derailleur.

Guys, as a loyal WWer I have just bought a 2011 RM and am sure it's the right decision.
laager seemed to suggest that the '11 RM might not work ideally with the 2010 shifters without working on the shifters.
Unless I misunderstood?
Thanks for the feedback.

I have both versions. Both have worked well. I feel that the improvements are incremental more then "massive". I would advise to purchase the 2011 version but I would not bother upgrading from a 2010 based on performance. I did upgrade but the 2010 went to replace a 10 speed Record on another bike

I have one bike with 2011 ergos and 2009 rear der. The other has 2011 ergos and 2011 rear der. I don't notice a difference in how the rear der moves/shifts.

For me the truely big bang for the buck was going from 2009/2010 ergos to the 2011 version - WOW

Just found out recently ( thanks to Graeme in Velotech ) that my SR RD which I purchased in Mar 2010 HAS the stronger spring, so its not just a 2011 development. Its easy to check which spring you have from the pics below :

murph100, thanks for that. Just had a look at 2010 SR RD and it's got the new shorter spring.

You're Welcome !! :beerchug:

... and now that you know you've got the new spring, you'll notice the shifting is much improved
