I love my CCUs - except for their abysmal bearings :)

The CeramicSpeeds Mavic15 upgrade is ~$500....seems a bit excessive

Two questions:

1) Can you suggest high quality ceramic alternatives for CCUs?

2) would ceramic bearings invalidate the MP3 program?

This am i was astounded how much better my wife's Dura-Ace wheel roll compared to my CCUs...

Cheers :)

It's not the bearings that are the problem, it's the hubs. Ceramics won't cure it. Proper adjustment and frequent disassembly/lubrication will help.

If the current bearings are already shot just get some high quality steel bearings and service them frequently.

Allright, good point, will pay close attention to this, thx.

Back to the original question though, any good alternatives to CeramicSpeed that will suit CCUs? :)

I have a favorite ceramic replacement. Token is a Taiwan company that makes some hybrid ceramic bearings. Most hybrid bearings have steel races with ceramic balls The races on all bearings will start to get corrosion and rust which speeds up wear and tear. Token uses The same coating on the steel races the drillbit manufacturers use on high speed drills. It's a titanium oxide coating that makes the drillbits a gold color. Coating will make high-speed steel much harder and it will resist rust and corrosion. I have found that this bearing design well last years and years. They call it "tiramic bearings" and you can find them on eBay for magic wheels. The kits are $89 shipped.

I would do as the others have recommended and clean and re-lube at least every year. I use an ultrasonic cleaner. Then repack with a light synthetic grease. Super Lube works well but there are many. Image

Yes, changing bearings voids warranty. Atleast when i asked Mavic MP3. Why not look for cycling ceramics bearing kit for CCU wheels?
http://shop.cyclingceramic.com/prestash ... vic-4.html
Much cheaper otherwise it seems like they're quite similar, both these brands.
You can always mail Yohann at cycling ceramics and ask about their bearings. Both brands are hybrids with special coated steel races.
As is, even Berner cages will now be avaible with cycling ceramic bearings i was told.
