Not usually a Scott fan but this one hits home! For sure better than the Venge...

I agree: this design is a winner. I'd definitely buy this frame if I was in the market and it passed the test ride.

I'm looking forward to getting this one out of the box...

I like his thinking.

It does look very similar....side by side....would the Scott really be any faster?

Testing with "similar wheelset" concerns me. Though the write-up in general appears to be English as a 2nd language so this may not mean anything.

The wording on the FOIL site seems to indicate they're discontinuing the addict. I guess the addict is a bit redundant now considering the FOIL is nearly as light and stiffer, with the added bonus of being aero.

Could be why my local scott dealers have hardly any addict stock and they delayed the release of the FOIL a bit, to drain down stocks of the addict and replace it with the FOIL. Also I think Greenedge is getting only FOILs for next season too.

Very keen on picking up a R1 frame, the black/white looks sensational.

That bike just made me barf.

Scott owes me a new keyboard.

Fail for not integrating battery.

Integrated battery = more weight. I, like an increasing number of pro riders, have no issue moving my own shifters.

That is EXACTLY what I thought - what the heck does 'similar' mean? No reason they couldn't use the exact same wheel setup for testing across different frames. Hopefully that is actually how it was done with no schenanegans.

All the testing was done with 404 Firecrest clinchers, which the top model comes with. No bottle for the published tests, but they did do testing with bottles. They said it made very little difference when comparing from frame to frame, even when they designed a bottle cage specifically for the bike.

Rides extremely similar to an Addict.

WRT the 757: that looks like it has fat, round down tubes.

On the VeloNews test versus the Scott test: the Felt and the Cervelo were very close here. The Cervelo tracked the VN test fairly well, just lower CdA likely due to the lack of handlebars and stuff. I assume therefore the inferior Felt results in the VN test were due to what was bolted on the frames, as opposed to the frames themselves.

Curious their custom bottle cages didn't help much! The P4 bottle definitely helps that bike, as documented in the SlowTwitch forum. But that's in a different league of optimization, since the bottle fills in the bottom bracket area.

added: Difference between Scott and VeloNews tests:
Cervelo: approximately 0.012 m²; Felt: approximately 0.021 m²

Yeah I didn't get much info on it, but saw a quick photo. Looked like a standard cage that had some filler between it and the frame itself, just in that little gap.

The design, in theory, keeps air clean and separated past that point anyway.

Good catch:

The FOIL is nestled appropriately between the CR1 and Plasma in our Road Range.

I wonder, then, if the "round tube bike" was a CR1 instead. That would boost the advantage to Foil, since the head tube is longer than an Addict.

Yeah, two types of road bikes, endurance (tall head tube, "vertical compliance") and aero. That's the way Cervelo has gone and it does make sense.

My LBS is trying to get some frameset prices today.
