I bit the bullet and bought the Kinesis frame. Stay tuned for a separate build thread.

Tons of un-nessecary weight on rims, tubes, seat post etc. for zero aero potential gain ...
.
IMO, kids don't need this kind of tool...I'd save a pound 1000 times over aero for 65 lbs kids that mostly ride under 30-33 km/h.

For any weenies looking to get a kids bike without going through the hassle of custom-assembling. This looks like a great way to go. maybe not the lightest, but definitely a quality spec.

Hopefully its not too late to contribute to this thread. I got my first road bike when I was 11+. A 23" frame Schwinn SuperSport. It was too big but I grew into it. Step up from the Traveler model. Not sure if it was Taiwan or USA built. Lugged steel frame. Stem shifters. Not sure if the rims were steel or aluminum. Centerpull brakes. Over the years the derailleurs were upgraded to Suntour Superbe Pro. Suntour downtube shifters were bolted on. A small adult bike might fit your kid. You could also build a bike using an aluminum frame from Nashbar for instance. I had one for a few years and it worked fine. Friend has two of the same frames for his kid's bikes. If you already have a supply of parts around the house, this might be a cheap way to get a good bike. May have to buy shifters.

No. That is just plain money bags wrong! No kid should have a carbon road bike worth $4000. Stupid. Kids are gonna grow up spoiled and act like real jerks when they get to be adults.

I suspect that a kid on a $4000 custom carbon bike is already living a life of luxury and entitlement such that his bicycle won't make much difference in the development of his character.

Money has nothing to do with a kid growing-up to be a jerk. That is 100% on you.

Just built up a new bike for my little brother. He's just moved from his 650c bike. Total bike weighs 6.5kg - 34cm short reach/drop Salsa bars and 165mm Rotor 3D cranks were perfect for his small size.
We're gonna swap the stem for a -17 one and get an in-line seatpost - also the steerer needs cutting of course.
