Handy!

One of mine has just started a 'click' each time I take a pedal stoke. Was going to throw it away. Now, maybe not.

Another thing that I've discovered about SP pedals is that the Ti and SS spindles for X and Zero pedals are identical (inside the pedal - the SS spindle is a bit longer on the outside). I recently rebuilt my X-1 pedals using Ti spindles from Zero pedals (which I hate) and X-2 pedal bodies from SP. Worked perfectly.

Take a small flat blade screw driver and insert into one of the slots and tap with a rubber mallet. The needle bearing will pop right off.

I bought a used pair pretty cheap and need to replace the needle bearing on one pedal. However, the needle bearing is completely stuck. By using the above method, all the needles and retainers fell out of the bearing, but the bearing body itself is completely stuck. Any ideas how to loosen it up?

There was a guy on ebay that sold all the stuff. He didn't label it as speedplay related parts though because of lawsuits from speedplay. I can't remember his ebay seller name though.

Thanks - I have found the bearing I need (HK1010), but if I can't get the old bearing out, it's of no use :( I am soaking in WD40 overnight, will try citrus solvent next. I think I'll just have to give up, write the cost off as spare parts, and order a new set of pedals. The body kit is more expensive ($100) than new pedals ($130 - which includes $40 cleats)

Update: problem solved. I took it to my LBS, who with a lot of patience and careful hammering using better suited tools, got the remainder of the needle bearing out.. It was stuck with locktite, but I think it would have gone easier, had I read the instructions in OP more carefully. I read "On the outside lip of the bearing is a thin wire retaining ring", but I thought that was the C-clip ring for the cartridge bearings. There is another thin wire retaining ring holding the needle bearing in place.... The wire is thin and well hidden in dirt and grease. I only noticed it when I came home and used a dremel to polish the surface where the bearing had been stuck. The mechanic at LBS did not see it either.
