During a cold day here with too much time on my hands I got curious where the weight came off of the 2004 Record ergo brake/shift levers.

I thought maybe they went to an alu band and bolts for the handlebar connection - but after comparing 2004 and 2003 Record to 2004 Chorus schematics I find they all use the same steel bands and bolts. 2003 Record shares same p/n as 2004 Record for carbon brake lever. Beside the surface treatment new on 2004 Record internals, the only other likely change is that 2003 Reocrd body is now same p/n as 2004 Chorus but 2004 Record body is new P/N - one might first justify that label (Ultra 10) on body justifies that new p/n but after comparing everything else I've got to conclude the 18 grams/set they took off came from the lever bodies - anyone heard the same or different??

So you can do it yourself with a 2003 model?

Thanks for the tip on the holes in the cogs - but after applying my "guesstimate" regarding size and number of holes results in calculations of 2 grams saved per cog (x2 cogs)....so still 14 grams short of where it came from....so maybe still the lever bodies?

All this is cause I was going to buy some Centaur levers for a cross bike and now thinking of maybe taking some 3 year old record levers off my road bike and moving them to the cross bike and replacing them with 2004's on the road bike - costs a bit more but more this way but hey I get a new set on the "good" bike plus the latest/lightest gizmo.
