Someone posted this site on a begium forum. Some new srm type crankstel. The looks are good, price is super (690euro), ANT+ compatible and they will be on eurobike. What do you guys think? The end of srm is nearby?

Seems like a cheaper version of SRM / Qarq. But nothing mentioned on accuracy, repeatability, measurement errors... Also the marketing spiel seems to position it as equipment for hobbyists. Not perhaps its most resounding endorsement. If I am going to put myself in pain for 3 hours, I really want to know whether my power is +10W better or worse than last week.

So you can expect a bunch of websites to be publishing data detailing its correlation with Powertap, iBike, Metrigear, Polar and any other powermeter they can strap to their bike. Obviously they can't easily compare it with SRM, but never mind.

"Six man-years of development, 167 structural elements, ten of which are specific components, and more than 50 process steps... In principle, the performance measurement between the crank and the chainrings is nothing new. The use of strain gages is also state of the art. power2max applies this principle but additionally defines major characteristics on a complete new level."

This blabber makes me NOT want this at all...

wth does this mean:
"ten of which are specific components" ooooh, so you put specific components in your thing??
"In principle, the performance measurement between the crank and the chainrings is nothing new." And yours arent either.
"The use of strain gages is also state of the art" also?? the use of "also" came from where????
"additionally defines major characteristics on a complete new level." the f*ck...??!! seriously guys....

PLEASE ADD DIMPLES TO IT ASWELL and make my day

An info about accurancy would be good.

I asked about the accuracy in an email and they replied: 2%

No subsequent powermeter has ever really come out saying it's less accurate than preceding ones. They all claim to have the same or better accuracy than SRM. I've never seen a new powermeter that says it's only 3% or 5% accurate. For awhile, Ergomo was claiming it was the most accurate despite only measuring one leg...

Posted on Wattage google group. Also to be released at Eurobike - Ergomo are releasing a BB30 compatible model which measures both left and right leg ouput.

Ergomo is still alive?

That's just on line with SRM, right?
Now it's just missing some real world test.

Yes. Ergomo are back trading again after filing for bankruptcy mid 2008.

Not possible. See linked .pdf with the description of the measure principle of the "new" sensor. Same old, same old...

Thanks for the clarification dual. Pity - as what I've heard from people that used the Ergomo the display was very good.

Still, interesting times with all the new players coming to market plus an old one being 'reborn'. Can't see myself moving on from my wired SRM's anytime soon though, especially the Track version. Given this is really the only true option at this time and not an improvisation like the Wheelbuilder Powertap modification of the Quarq custom plate...

"The power meter is mounted on the final element of propulsion system and measures an actual power output transmitted to the road."
Close, but no cigar - I want to see a powermeter measuring the deformation in the tyre.

from their site:
We develop the most advanced and accurate power meter in the world. Our power sensor has level of accuracy to meet the highest demands of performance cyclists. Affordable prices make our technology available for millions of people commuting by bike and also for those performing recreational cycling. Using our sensor as an optimisation device makes cycling more comfortable, enjoyable and sustainable

I mean.. please.. How can they expect to be taken seriously like that

But anyway, I read how that system works and there a couple of problems with it.
they measure wheel deflection. i don't see how the relationship between applied power and the way a wheel responds to that can be calibrated since the wheel does not only react to the actual power output but also the way it is produced, e.g. seated, out of the saddle, rocking hard left to right etc.. This relationship is hardly linear..
