Corima Wheels - Thoughts/Opinions?

I'm looking for feedback on Corima wheels...any general thoughts on them?

Their new MCC wheels are being shown on their website at between 980g & 1080g for the pair (not sure what the difference is between the 2 weights)...they look similar to Lightweights...

It's been a month I use Corima's Aero +.
Very strong wheels (foam filled carbon rims), very stiff (for my 82kg), easily repairable (sapim spokes), nice carbon hubs, they roll great.
Their weight is on par with Bora and their price is really competitive for what they offer IMHO.

Can't vouch for the stock wheels, but I've been racing their Aero rims (custom-built onto Tune hubs, ceramics and CX-Ray spokes) for a year or two. Rims seem rock solid to me, I've crashed heavily once and the wheels survived even after the tubulars were torn off the rim sideways.

IMHO, these are getting close to holy (light, aero and stiff).

I heard that Corima supply (or supplied) rims for Campagnolo - does anyone have more info on this?


What i can confirm - i once compared a set of Corima Winiums with a set of Campag Hyperons, and the Corimas were only 30g heavier (for the pair)!

That may have been the case at one point in time but I really very much doubt it's still the case today.
For starters, the technology used by Campagnolo is quite different from that found in the Corima rims...

Talking of which, they're really great wheels at a very fair price. Just check the spoke tension on new factory wheels, I often found them unevenly tensioned.
As someone else mentioned before, the bearings are amongst the best Japanese steel bearings, they do need some breaking in though.
The only thing I absolutely do not like is not being able to service bearings in the freehub. It can be done but you'll need to send the freehub to Corima so they can open it for you.

Other than that, great company, great service (you can order just about any spare part online) and a very fair price.

Corimas are great wheels, impressed by the way they hold speed. The stock spokes and hubs are solid! I'm using the aero with the 3k weave, (older style). The only downside, as mentioned by fdegrove, is the serviceability of the freehub, specially when changing bearings. You need a special tool to split the freehub to get to the bearings inside. They are not as service friendly as a dt swiss hub. Be prepared to stock a new freehub when the bearings wear out or send them to corima for servicing. Fortunately, I've got a custom made tool to split open the freehub for bearing replacement. Their technology is top class. The finish on rims are impecable, clear coated and glossy like the bora's. Spare parts in the USA though are hard to come by....those 2010 Corima + MCC models with low spoke count look gorgeous!! Reminds me of the Rolf TDF's... 2 cents worth...

I've spent about 5000 Kilometers on the Aero+ last year. Overall, I was quite happy with the wheels and with the Corima service. Anyhow, here is what I didn't like: They required truing every 1000 Kilometers. I guess, a custom built could be more stable as what you get out of the factory. Furthermore, truing requires taking off the tires. Finally, if you use rubber break pads (e.g. Swissstop) in the mountains, the rims can overheat and wear out. So better stick with the Corima cork pads.

on a related note, any clue where one can find replacement MOst Charisma decals? i've been hoping to find a replacement set for forever

Just get them tensioned right, as Fdegrove says they can need a tune before working well.

I can only add to the voices above that they are strong. I know they have survived U-23 Paris-Roubaix.

Does any page on the Corima website give actual prices? It's currently forcing me to go through the ordering process.

I personally picked up a set of Aero+ in Loriol on my last Provencé holiday.

They are really friendly on site and up to now the quality of the wheelset is just perfect :thumbup:

They just ask you to give them your id in order to have access to their data. It is not an ordering procedure.

Anyway, for a high quality carbon wheelset made in France, a price of 1100-1200 euros is great.

Yes, Corima have a network of sole distributors who make up the prices as they go along.
Here in the UK Corima are poor value for money from the distributor (Yellow) as they are much higher priced than France via the direct webshop.
I use my In-laws address in France to have stuff delivered to and passed on to the UK, but if I put in my country of origin I get no access to the webshop.
I'd suggest you have something like that going on with Greece. :wink:
It's incredibly short sighted of Corima to continue with this system, they could make a fortune if we had access to the wheels direct as they'd be very popular here at the direct price.
I'm pretty sure this market fixing is also in contravention of European law with regards to a free European market also?? :thumbup:
