Hello guys, you may remember my thread a couple of months ago about finding a UD carbon seat post for my BMC build. A suggestion to an Easton
thread got me interested, and I chose that route. First of all, I contacted Ax-Lightness and got two of their aluminum yokes, at a claimed 8g a piece. They were actually 8.2g a piece, at 8.2 euro a piece.. neat. I was originally going to get an EC70 post, because they seemed to be the version that is UD carbon and not weave. Apparently, there are some EC90 posts that are also UD, even though 95% of the pictures I have seen are of weaved versions. I found this one on ebay for $40, and bought it immediately. Was trimmed to 270mm, perfect. Ordered the M6x35 titanium bolts from Toronto cycles, and got them today (8 business days). Got the dremel out, and went to town.
Widened the holes for the bolts first, since the original bolts were M5 (or was it M4?). Next I took the half pipe outside and used a grinding bit to chew off as much as I could, with the old EC90 thread as a reference- viewtopic.php?t=14674
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; An hour later, here it is.
EC90 Stock, 270mm = 169.3g
Carbon post, no hardware = 95.6g
Stock hardware(yokes, bolts, halfpipe) = 73.7g
EC90 with new hardware = 138.2g (-31.1g)
Carbon post, cut to ~220mm = 73.9g (-21.7g)
New hardware = 38.9g (-34.8g)
After dremel work = 112.5g (-56.8g)
Beat felix by half a gram! But he did this four years ago, so I say he still wins. I think it would be lighter if it was the weave version, as felix had his cut to 260mm and mine is cut to 220mm. However, I bought the UD version to match the BMCs UD carbon frame. Thanks for looking!
