Thinking of picking up a set of these and was wondering if there is any feedback any of you can share on the new 2009 / 2010 model with the 32mm depth, 88/188 hubs and external nipples? My locale gets extreme winds and I am looking to drop from 46mm depth to something a little more manageable, hence the 202 instead of the 303. Also considering sticking with clinchers and getting a set of MV32's instead. Thoughts are much appreciated on either of those wheelsets. Thanks.

I can get you some infos about the 2009 version.
Wheels are great on long training rides, riding is very smooth. For Racing they could definitely be stiffer.
Even when getting out ouf the sattel, you can feel that there`s not too much stiffness at all... But, as just mentioned, they are
really comfortable to ride and good to accelerate.

BUT, I wasn`t happy with the spokes. You should order a big package of spare spokes...

If you want Zipps, go for the 303. Nearly same weight, stiffer and not that fragile...

The new 202 are pretty damn nice. Nothing wrong with the 303 either. Neither catch a whole lot of wind. BOTH are better at holding speed than MV32 and crosswinds effect them about even (if not a little worse on the MV32). The new 303 are a monster rim given the weight. Just make sure you have brakes that will take the wider package. I would be suprised if the mv32 were not doble digit percentage less stiff than the new 303.

Durability has been very good. About the only complaint you hear anymore are rehashed stories from 2-3 generations ago...

The new Zipp hubs are arguably the nices stock hubs on "big company" wheels right now. I say arguably only because someone else might like something else, but the build on the new hubs is in my opinion the best strength to weight made from a large wheel producer... They're more like tech you would expect from a boutique company but in a package that holds together really well.

Don`t get me wrong - they are definitely great wheels. I haven`t had any problems with the hubs or bearings.
The only thing which sometimes produced problems were the spokes. Even the once german importeur Tridynamik told me, it`s
a common problem with the Zipp 202.

Talking about the 2009er wheels btw.

Zipp use Sapim CX-Ray spokes on all their wheels.

I have a set of 2010 404s and I really like the new hubs and rims, definitely stronger than before.

They spin real nice with stock bearings and the preload adjustment mechanism is quite nice.

I don't see how the spokes are a problem since Zipp uses CX Rays.

Sapim CXRay spokes are great. Sapim alloy nipples not so much. If you have breakage problems switch to DT nipple and presto no more breakage.

Another factor: for Zipp wheels so much depends on the build. IIRC many Zipp wheels outside the USA are built by the distributors. Can be great but sometimes not. If the build is not perfect the weakness in the nipples will show up.

Yes the new rear hub seems to have raised Zipps to the next level. Very good lateral stiffness for such a light wheel. I have yet to hear about a failure of a 2009 Zipp Wheel. Anyone?

I work at a bike shop and I haven't heard of any 09 Zipp wheels blowing up. Seen some 09 Eastons and even the new 2010 Easton.
One of the mechanics got a phone call from some sort of VP @ Easton explaining that Easton had a long run of Sapim spokes that had low metallurgical value. Very weird, all I know is I never seen the Sapim spokes fail on Zipp wheels but have seen them fail on Eastons, any input on this guys?

I like the MV32s but they are not for the heavier rider as they will flex but not disproportional. It depends on the deal you can get on the rims, I will wait to see more feedback on the new Zipps. Don't forget custom options too..

a little late but...I bought Zipp 202s in July 2009 - the latest '09 carbon bridge and the new hubs. By FAR the best wheel set I have ever owned, super light, stiff all the usual bla bla but what is more important I love them so much I literally ride them all the time(well almost) not only for races and special saturday afternoon rides.
Mind you in my area we have potholes the size of truck tires, a lot of bad road surface actually and there are NO issues with these rims. Except for the special sound when a carbonfiber rim hits the edge of the pothole.....
I have over 1500 miles on them now and they look like new- literally, they are perfectly true still - in fact just putting new tires right now, glue is drying

Good to hear! I took the plunge and bought a set myself, but have not had them out on the open road yet. I will reply with my thoughts once I get some miles into them.

Just a reminder to have the spokes re-tensioned after the first few hundred km.

I just bought a set of 202's for all round racing with the exception of flat crits where I go super deep.

I know two guys who won their fields on 202's at Battenkill. No one is playing with spoke re-tensioning. I also considered the MV 32's and a custom set of Edge... but every credible person I spoke to feels the 202's are be best light and durable option available today.

Again, for racing only... nobody needs these type of wheels for just riding around. That's what heavy training wheels are for...
