compatability making life hard?? or will this work?

Sorry to dredge up the usual compatability questions i have spent a long time searching and would like some assurances that this lot will work thanks mutchley ps i have been lurking for years!
ok : tune hub (with a american classic cassette clips) - 7900 12-25 cassette -7900 chain - 7800 chainrings - campag record 10 speed qs
ergos - shiftmate3 - 7800 front and rear mechs. my main doubt is the chain/rings thing.

There will be no issues with the chain or rings

it should work, but it may be less than ideal... especially with the shiftmate setup. i've found them to be far more hassle than they are worth, unless you're on a shoestring budget trying to force parts to work together.

sell the ergo s and pony up for some 7900 levers
sometimes it feels nice to be a snob

its going to be an extra £155 and sell the leavers and shift mate then. is there a specific problem with my not so cunning origanal plan or is it general hassel all round to make it work? thanks

Why exactly do you want to do this? Purely ergonomics?

Its a combination of using kit i already had, ergonomics and just being awkward! but if its not going to work well, I will get 7900 leavers and front mech people seem to say the 7800 brakes work ok with 7900 stis .there was a guy on here who had 7900 sti on a 7800 canonndale (synapse i think) who said it was ok but i cant find the artical. cheers

If you have all the parts I'd just go ahead and try it. It really depends on a lot of stuff how well a certain combo will work. Most of it can be in your head. Just put it together, use new cables and housing and then see if it works well enough for you.
