I was poking around at tekbolt.com, I was really confused. I don't really know if M5 is the standard bolt on a bike? I'm just looking to replace water bottle cage bolts, maybe seat binder, etc.

For water bottle cages, the m5 bolt is correct. You just need to know the length. I have ordered Ti bolts from www.hyperbolts.com , with a good experience. Quick delivery and good prices.

Perhaps you have already used this; if not, it is helpful:

I bought these from these guys on ebay before.. good for carbon cages with the wide M5 bolt-heads.

The listing says they weigh 1.7g each = 6.8g for 4.
Why did you use those instead of 1g alloy bolts?

Good question.. I wanted Ti because my alloy ones were corroding. I suspect the carbon/alloy as the culprit.

If it is only for the bottlecages you could try carbonfiber screws, they weigh next to nothing :)
I must say I haven't tried these myself yet, so I'm not sure about durability.

Depends whether you are mounting a bottle cage or not.

Plastic is a cheap alternative to just plug up the hole.

Thanks for the responses. I remember that titanium reacts badly with another metal. Was it aluminum, or maybe magnesium? My frame is alu, so i'm kinda worried.

Anyway, the carbon bolt idea sounds good. It'd only be ok to use it for the cages right? No load bearing areas of the bike?

my understanding is that titanium seizes with titanium unless you use anti-seize

Ti prep or copper past is good enough, and believe me Ti bolts come in many qualities. The higher the percentage of other metalls mixed in the lighter (if it's aluminium) but weaker the bolt gets.
Be sure to never buy any high class bolts through ebay (for stem/seatpost etc.) Syntace is a much better option.

So, where do you recommend getting bolts from?
