Hello all. I am very interested in your input. I have done a search of the lightest production (not custom made) wheels on the market currently. Here is my (probably) incomplete list. Please let me know if these numbers are right or if you have anything to add:
Figures are for 700c and w/o skewers (unless specified):

1. Reynolds Cirro UL-KOM 1050g
2. Zipp Z3 1065g
3. Tune Olympic Gold 1076g
4. Zipp Mid V 303 1124g
5. Reynolds Stratus DV UL 1130g
6. Velomax Ascent II Carbon 1145g
7. Lightweight (w/ Campy rear hub) 1165g
8. ADA 1172g
9. Bontrager Triple X Lite 1190g
10. Hyperon (with skewers) 1240g

Please feel free to add any wheels or correct me. I feel a list like this would be very helpful to all. A couple of comments:

1. I have an Advertisement in front of me from 2002 from Zipp for their Z3 and it claims a weight of 960g. But on their website it states 1065g.

2. I also have an Ad from Bontrager for their Triple X Carbon that states Front wheel 495/Rear 690 (Total: 1185g), but their web site states 1190g.

3. Do Lightweight and ADA make any lighter wheels? I have seen on one list a year 2000 Lightweight for 1050g. What happened to the new ones? Why are they heavier?

The 1050 g are for 650C wheels.

Yes, AM uses Zipp rims with AM hubs. I have a set of 303's and a set of AM carbons. Have not ridden the AM's but the 303's have been great. I did use regular Campy pads (Zipp originaly said that no special pads were needed) which messed up the rims, but Zipp replaced them for no charge and even used the new 04 rims and Sapin spokes (old hub though). Other than that no problems with them. I have a friend that has used his AMs and broke the pawl so I am a little sceptic of them.

Hello. I checked with American Classic. The figure of 1038g for their 38mm Carbon wheelset is for the 650c, NOT the 700c. The 700c is 1110g. This puts it at #4 on my list now. Thanks for the info.

Hello. Superlite mentioned that the year 2000 version 700c Lightweights were 1050g. Their website now states they are 1165g (w/ Campy rear hub). Does this mean the ones now made are a little heavier? Anybody talked to them? If that is the case, this puts them at #8 on the latest list.

Also, if this is the case, how come not many pros use the Reynolds Cirro UL-KOM, or the Z3, or Tune, or Velomax? Does anyone know the reason(s)? Is it purely cost? Quality?

Not year 2000, reynolds didn't even make the rims back then. i didn't even notice the part where you said year 2000. Where did you get 1165g for the set? There site says 1050g for the Cirro UL KOM.

As for the American Classic wheels you mentioned they weigh 1073g for a 16, 20 build, not 1110g.

Superlite, I think you misread my message. The wheels I was referring to in the year 2000 were the Lightweights (Dierl & Obermayer) (you'll see this if you read my message carefully). On this website it states that a pair of year 2000 wheelsets weighed 1050g, and you confirmed it earlier in a previous post.

As for the American Classic 38mm Mid-V Carbon wheels, their own website states Front: 457g Rear: 653g which comes out to 1110g.

My question still is, were some changes made to the new Lightweights (Dierl & Obermayer) which makes them heavier now? Their website states they are 1165g with a campy rear hub.

Your right, I did misread your message. No need to give me lip. For some reason I thought you were talking about the lew or reynolds wheelsets. My bad!

And for the American classic I do stand correct. The 700c 16 spoke front, 20 spoke rear weigh 1073g. This is a real weight, i.e it was weighed, not an advertised weight. The ones you speak of have a different spoke count. 18/24 perhapes?

Hello Superlite,

I checked again with the American Classic website. The lightest wheel they sell now is 1110g. Are you sure the wheel you're talking about is a "production" wheel, and not a custom one? Remember, I stated this list only includes production wheels that are tubular and 700c.

Dude, a friend of mine weighed his set. 1073g. Like I said, a real weight.
The weight listed is for a 18 spoke front, 24 spoke rear, check my other post. And thats a target weight, each wheelset from any manufacturer will have a slight variance.
