Hi WWs...

So I've been looking around for a new crank. This time I'd like a removable spider so I can upgrade it to a power meter or put an MTB spider on there for occasional steep climbing.

Obviously cost is a matter but if we disregard cost, what would be the list of lightest such cranks out there.

Here is a list with a guess from me. Feel free to add or change the order.

1. Specialized S-works
2. Cannondale SISL2
3. Sram red/s1000 is it?

What have I missed?

Is the specialized the winner? How do they differ from eachother? What's the lightest model?

Clavicula m3 would be up there. I think the other things to consider would be which power meter you want as some have multiple options which may make a much bigger difference than the arm and spindle weight.

THM M3 road with 110bcd spider is 363gr. I've seen a specialized one with 110bcd at 383gr.

20gr is not worth the ridiculous price of the THM besides the spiders/powermeters that fit must be very scarce.

What I'd like to know is how to differentiate specialized cranks? Which are lighter and which heavier?

Is there no lighter crank than the specialized? How heavy is a cannondale sisl2?

Where have you seen Specialized so light? it must have been without spider (crankarms only) or something like that.

They are, but it isn't particularly light, a little bit lighter than R9100. Reasonably priced though.

I have a Hollowgram SiSL 110 mm BCD ( older 5 arms model ) 170mm crank arms with a 4iiii Precision PM.
Comes in at 470 g with 110 mm spider, 109 mm spindle and the PM included.

I am up in the air on the Easton cranks as I have seen some less than flattering quality from their rings.

Price is a pretty easy to narrow your interests - THM is always at the top of a weenie list. Quality, stiffness, and weight is pretty tough to top but comes at a premium. The generation previous to the current S-Works cranks are excellent and can be found for a steal. But the current gen are excellent also.

Cannondale same ball park.

Lots of good choices that is for sure.

This is WW, no?
for most true WW it's quite rare to use stock chainrings, ever.

But what about the crank?

Weight is a priorty, stiffness a close second.
Finding the best SxW would be ideal.

My 2017 (new design) S-Works crank was 355gr for the arms/spindle/bolt, and the carbon 110bcd spider was 56gr for a total of 411gr. With my Quarq spider it came in at 498gr.

The 383gr number was in my head from last year when I got my current fsa sl-k off the second hand market. A seller had the specialized photographed on a scale woth spider showing 383. Now this might not be proof but I found another such crank. This seller says this one is 380gr. It can't be a coincidence.

I know this crank is not on a scale. I could ask the seller to put it on a scale but I'm pretty sure I don't habe to. The specs are 172.5 bb30 110bcd. Seller put it out for around 150usd.

Does anyone recognize what model it is?

100000km / 10 years, after which you have to contact THM (probably for safety checks of the component?) Does anyone have actual experience with this milestone on THM cranks?

A user did a comparison and here are the findings:

2010 or 2011 Specialized crank - 175mm / 52/36 - comes with alloy spider
- 556g for complete crankset
- 149g for Left Arm
- 237g for Right Arm + Alu Spider
- 34g for 36t chainring
- 116g for 52t chainring


2011 S-works crank - 172.5 50/34 - comes with carbon spider
- 520g for complete crankset
- 152g for Left Arm
- 223g for Right Arm w/Carbon Spider
- 30g for 34t chainring
- 99g for 'S-works' 50t chainring

It appears the difference is in the spider. None of these two weigh over 400gr though. I suspect newer models have been beefed up compared to the old ones. Good for people like me though that like to save a buck and buy older stuff.
