After eight agonizing months of hard thinking, im finally taking the plunge and getting the Lightweight Standard Gen 3 wheelset next week..
cant wait to compare it to my Bora Ultras 8)

btw, out of curiosity, has anyone ever check the trueness of LW Gen 3 wheels when it's new? (out of the box)
i've realise that it's approx 1-1.5mm off at lateral direction when put on the Parktool wheel trueing stand.
is that within the normal manufacturing tolerance for LW wheelsets?

cheers :)

I'm sure you will be happy with them...but please let us know how they compare to your Boras

How many spokes did you go for in the front wheel?

I have a 12 spoke Gen 1 front for my TT bike and that is still pretty impressive not much difference to my 16 spoke Obermayer

I'd say mine as true as when I first had them.......this is my 3rd pair all have been perfect. However they don't get too much harsh treatment

However i'm not very heavy 66kg ish with a smooth riding style and they never hit the brake blocks when climbing.

Not something I can say was true of the zipp 440's 303 and 202's I've owned

16 spokes is ideal for a mix of riding

I've also got a unused Ventoux front, looking for a rear to go with it

Use it with a standard or Obi rear for cross-windy days, that is unless you can't stand it from a fashion standpoint :twinkle:

thats exactly why I bought it....if its too windy for the disc then for sure its too windy for a deep section front.

the new LW standard Gen 3 uses full carbon spokes, the 16spokes version is now approx 1070 grams.

can't go wrong with either ones nonetheless :D

cheers

I know I am in the minority around here, but I was disappointed with my LW's. They were quickly sold a short time after I purchased them. Perhaps it was because I had built them up so much as the perfect wheelset - I don't know. They just didn't feel special. I felt that the Mavic CCU's were a much better wheelset - those rode much nicer.

That said though - the LW's are so gosh darn sexy that if I had the extra cash burning a hole in my pocket I'd get another set. I like sexy.

Got a set of Ventoux's for a racer and they were so much out of true out of the box I had to send them back. Replaced them with a set of LW Gen 3s. My personal set of Gen 3s are not perfectly true, which is normal for LW wheels.

thanks for sharing.. 8)
i guess this should be considered normal for handmade wheels then..

what puzzles me is why there are reported cases of the wheels going out of true after a year of usage..
hmm

strobbekoen or anyone with LW Gen 3 (tubular)..

sorry for bringing up an old post..

can anyone of you guys check what is the trueness of your LW wheels (front wheels).
mine is approx 1-2mm out of true.
FYI, it has been like that eversince day 1 i got the wheels, but Carbonsports is telling me this is abnormal and requesting me to send the wheels back

i even measured another Gen 3 wheelset (out of the box - new) from my LBS..and the front is 1-2mm out of true as well. :?:

any comments?
btw, it's rather inconvenient to ship the wheels back to Carbonsports. If 1-2mm is considered normal, i'd continue using this wheelset.

thanks.
