It's been awhile since I had the 53/39 combo on my rims. Got them on my cranks now.

I think spécialite TA are the best compromise between weight and strengt.

The lightest 53/39t chainrings you can buy are the stronglight CT rings, they weigh 113g.

The lightest chainrings mad however are on the new Zipp 300 cranks, 93g for the set, and they are not available for purchase, only available with crankset.

josh at the zipp booth in vegas said the rings that the zipp crank comes with are regular stronglight rings.

i got this through a source.

No, we do not have special rings that weigh 93 grams. We have the basic stronglight rings with some additional machining mainly for cosmetic continuity with our parts which saves about 2 grams over the traditional Stronglight rings, on top of that they are polished and laser etched with all of our information. Our rings are roughly 85-86 grams and 36-38 grams with aluminum bolts coming in at 8-10 grams for all 5. The key to our part's weight is all in the weight of the crank arms at 270-280 for a pair of arms.

Hope this helps.

josh @ zipp

additionally, Stronglight has just introduced new CT2 rings which are ceramic coated and slightly lighter at 76 and 35 grams respectively and we are evaluating them for future usage, but currently have no plans at this point. Mainly, they have removed some sectional material and the new rings are not quite as stiff in bending and there are some worries about shifting performance, so we are currently under review of how to remedy this. These rings weigh 76 and 35 respectively, but still nowhere near 93 for the pair.
