After installing a new Super Record 11 derailleur, I am experiencing that the chain is rubbing the inner cage plate (red arrow on the picture), and the cage plates seem to be slightly askew compared to the derailluer body.

I have double checked the following:

- The alignment skrews are set correctly, and a perfect centre line between the top jockey wheel and the largest and amallet sprocket is oblained.

- The derailleur is correctly fitted on the hanger.

- The derailleur hanger is straight.

- The chain lenght is correct (...if it should be of any relevance).

The picture shows the chains position when running the largest front chain ring and the smallest cassette sprocket. Still there is not enough clerance for the chain to run freely between the cage plates, and the inner plate (alu.) is being slightly rubbed against.

I am most thankful for any word of advice...

both a bent hanger, or poor chain line could be the issue if I understand correctly. I purchased a used SR with the pulley wheel worn on one side that was checked for a bent derailleur but not as far as I know for the center line being off. My SR has no such issues so IMO its not a fault of the derailleur design IMO. I suppose first I would see if I get the same issue using another wheel.

I had that When I installed my record 11 for the first time. My hanger was way off and my chain was a few links too short that was causing the dérailleur to pull inward.

Thanks for all advices everyone.

I must admit that I find it a bit surprising that the cage is bent that much outwards compared to the derailleur body...but then again it's hard to believe that this derailleur could have left assembly at Campy not in a perfect shape...

+1 on the hanger. Even with a proper hanger alignment tool, these days the tolerances are so tight that you cannot always tell. I have a bike that I have had to replace the hanger on twice this season, although I haven't laid the bike down. I could not see a misalignment even after checking with an alignment tool. I replaced the hanger anyway and, presto!

+1 on der hanger alignment ... It appears in your pic that horizontal alignment is not correct. I would recommend the Park hanger alignment tool in order to get the most precise alignment. EM3

Thanks a lot, Geoff and em3.

I wrongly drew the conclusion that scince the hanger had worked smoothly with a DA 7800 derailleur, and also appeared to be straight on the alignment tool, it just had to work with the apparantly much tighter tolerance on the SR derailleur...

Well, a new hanger is on its way...and propably also the Park DAG-2 tool
