Can you post a photo of this post assembled?
Cool stuff....
My Thomson Masterpiece, 31.8 mm = 180.6 grams cut. Very competitive for such a large post, but that clamp is on the beefy side.
thanks...

i wonder how much abuse the tune ec90 post can handle? im thinking of doing that for one that i have on a hardtail MTB but i worry about cracking the bottom carbon plate
What about picking up a Masterpiece post and replacing the lower with a carbon home made cradle and using the ti bolt replacement kit along with a modified top. You should be able to really drop the weight.
What about instead of drilling out the top part, you scalloped out the middle section and left material in the middle?

The Masterpiece already has Ti bolts, I believe.
You can replace the clamp with carbon bits. A guy here is Melbourne makes them

He claims a 30g saving by using the carbon plates

My Masterpiece game with normal steelbolts, i changed those to Ti and save few grams.

Nice thread mining... 1.5 yrs old!
You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer.

or save the trimmed bits and get the masterpiece post when ready and transfer the bits over for the lightest of both worlds...

Hey -- the thread is due for a follow-up! This sort of custom hackery calls out for reliability testing, so I'd love to know if it's still up and running.
The custom carbon clamp is a bit high on the $/gram saved metric, and additionally is of questionable durability. On the other hand, the Thomson clamp obviously has some safety margin built into it relative to a lighter-than-average rider, so clearly can be trimmed back a bit. The question is always "how much"?
On the Thomson bolts: I measure 19.2 grams for the bolt hardware for my Masterpiece. Toronto Cycles sells a kit for Thomson which it claims is 12 grams for the set. So it would save 7.2 grams for $22.

Changing the Ax Lightness-style yokes to the KCNC would save even more weight...
Around 130gr in 300mm....pretty good weight for seatback post
