1080's? yowza.

It seems like his chin is almost over the handlebars. I know I am positioned much further back. Should I be in this position?

Why does he wear a aero suit and rides 1080s, but doen't go with the Felt AR and the Oval carbon bar and the Oval aero-stem?
His choice was not totally consistent.

Maybe because most of the potential benefit with an aero frame is negated as soon as you put bottles on the bike. And maybe he prefers the round handlebars.

Imagine he wants so much to be aero that he has lowered his front end from may be 2cm and didn't have the time to cut the steerer. Another trick to try to be more aero :D

Or he could just be doing it all for some attention.
Sponsors will love him for it.
If you cant win do something stupid. It worked for that American guy in the olympics.

I have the same question about the AR. Joe Masters Cat IV is supposed to drop $7k because he absolutely must have the aero advantage of the AR-Team, but Dave Zabriskie passes it up when he went with a skin suit in a 250 km classic? Doesn't look good. No shortage of SLC* out there

the word was that he planned on soloing the day and so he wore a skinsuit and dropped his bars 'two inches' to make for a more tt like position and to get whatever benefit he could...

he did in fact solo up to the break, and the break did eventually get 11 minutes before they were reeled back in.

and then the idea is that he would return the bars to there normal height for the next day.... hence the spacers on top.

Okay -- I got an inside word on this (amazing whom one runs into on a random Wednesday Noon Ride), which was the following. Basically there was a shortage of AR's early on and Dave didn't get one, for whatever reason. The geometry on the AR is different: the bottom bracket had to be moved forward to accommodate the rear wheel faring. Dave is pretty fanatical about fit (remember the fiasco with him being forced to give up his Rocket 7 shoes in the Tour last year) and didn't want to mess with geometry late in the year.

I asked the guy (connected with the team but not a rider) how the Powertap ANT+ Sport works with the Garmin. He said "perfectly". Take it for what it's worth. He was using the Garmin on the ride, but didn't have a powertap wheel.

Is it possible his stubble cancels out the benefits of the wheels, or should it be thought of as "bio-dimples"?

If I'm not to way of the actually "tested" that in the windtunnel. Not that they did a specific test on it, but they did, according to something I think I read, take som tests to check the airflow around the face of shaved riders contra unshaved just for shit and giggles.

I kinda like Dave Zee but fair play all that aero guff came to nothing when they went up the first hill on the run in - he went straight out the back!

Still it was job well done getting across to the break and giving em hell.
