I didn't get them used. I got them brand new from Excel sports -- I ordered by phone and asked for a sizeable percentage off just because, and they gave it to me.

The system is lubed up properly etc. I've run speedplays for the past two years so I pretty much know what Im doing with them. Rider weight definitely impacts the ability to engage cleats. That was the whole reason the Light Action system was created, for lighter riders that had trouble providing enough force to clip in with just their body weight. There's a huge noticeable difference when using the LightAction C clips versus the Zero C clips, a speedplay rep told me the clips are heat treated differetly to make the Zero clip significantly stiffer and requiring more force to engage/disengage.

Woops, sorry must have confused you with another guy who bought them used.

I believe the LA system was created for beginners and as such, does allow "easier" engage/disengagement, but I've been riding X1 TIs for two years now and the only issue with engagement I've had was misaligning the cleat when trying to engage. That, and over-tightening the screws on my first ride.

Anyway, seems like you've got the issue resolved. Maybe go for Speedplay-specific Bonts next time though to save yourself the headache.

Yeah... they were really sort of an impulse buy though so I never thought to check if a 4-hole version existed though, heh.

Mold you must. :)
Don't know if you'll be able to mold a higher arch support, though. I couldn't, but then again I'm pes cavus as mentioned previously; Not an arch, really, more like a cavity, hence the latin name for the anomality. Had no problem fitting my custom orthopedic insoles in them, though. Onlya bit of trimming in the toe area was needed. Had to crank the ratchet down real hard to get enough volume for it all. I've baked them twice, but I'll bake them again to get a bit more room for a couple of knucles. Funny feet.

The Zero+ is on Bonts website, you can order it...

Hmm, it seems the Zero is gone?

Just wondering if anyone who has drilled the sole of their Bont's can give me any insight on this.

I'm a fairly small person and I like my q-factor to be fairly narrow. I'm riding speedplays zeros and already have the cleat adjusted to the narrowest Q-factor, but it's still a tad too much for me so I want to redrill the holes on the sole. My 3-4 hole adapter is also slammed all the way back (towards the heel) at the moment so I could drill the holes towards the inside and back but the new holes would be at best about 1cm away from the old ones. I'm wondering if this would weaken the cleat mounting area significantly enough to risk the sole exploding on me...

You're after a midfoot cleat pacement? Steve hogg has written something about that.

Maybe this Speedplay kit could be part one of the solution?
CLEAT EXTENDER BASE PLATE KIT: Replaces Standard Black Plastic Base Plates to provide 2mm additional forward positioning and 14mm additional rearward positioning.

Part two: It is possible to get Speedplay Zero pedals with axles as short as 50 mm. 53mm is stock, except for Titanium which only comes in 50mm.

Yeah I would consider Ward Ti spindles to bring the q factor in. That is if you have room.

The stock holes on my Bonts were too far in and back for my set up, so I just offset drilled them. Work like a charm now (I'm not on Speedplay though)
