Lots of fun building this up to where it's at today. Got a little carried away with the $$$ (moreso than I thought til I did the spreadsheet!) Oh well, I made a killer deal on the wheelset and made it all worth while. Not really worried about the exact weight, but I think I'm close. It sure rides nice.

cutting your steerer tube down will cost you nothing too!

40g is a tad high as an estimate for 4 steel bolts in your bottle cage!
should be more like 8g to 10g.

Swapping the saddle with my Specialized BG Pro Gel 295 gram unit tonight.

Dust caps stay, not worrined about a gram or two there.

Planning on cutting the steerer down as soon as I get the cockpit where I want it... hopefully soon.

I adjusted my speadsheet to reflect 20 grams for the braze on bolts. You're right, this is a more realistic figure.

I'm now down to 8381gr or 18.477lbs

Ditch the pedals!

Pedals stay for now. I need to get more ride time in on them to really appreciate how much I should go "click in." Probably not anytime soon as winter is on the way.

Go for it--lose those bmx pedals and try some clip-ins. Have you ever skied? If so you'll feel at home. Might be one or two awkward moments the first day, but after that you'll never look back, or down. This ride deserves it.
And just out of curiosity, what kind of dust do you think you're keeping out of the presta valves? The caps don't stop air leaking out, and I've never had dust get in, or water, or any other substance in 25 years of riding (only ever presta valves.) They look gumby.

I'm 42 and haven't skied in 20 years or so. Probably try a nice set of clipless pedals next season. For now, the MKS jobbers work for me.

I didn't realize the valve caps were such a big deal with the weenie crowd (but obviously should have by the very nature of the site name!)

Actually, they're bad, creating unnecessary stress especially on lighter rims. They do nothing really, since the valve isn't going anywhere anyway when the tube is inflated.

OK, next pedals/saddle; then seatpost; later on fork; then bar/stem. Later later drivetrain: when it wears, upgrade to lighter components. At least you started with good wheels, that was smart. But you should try clipless pedals, it's not just weight, it's pedaling technique: those you have only lead to further mashing; it's the tricycle stroke we all have in body memory that one needs to change.
