Frame Housing Liner/Tube Thing?
Moderator: robbosmans
I'm looking to buy some Frame Housing Liner. Not the small diameter liner that brake/shifter cables go in, but the larger diameter liner that allows full brake/shifter housing. It comes pre-ran in some framesets to aid in cable installation, and I know I've seen it for sale before standalone.
I've used this in the past to help make replacing internal hydro hose a million times easier, but I had to trash it after it got kinked.
I'm unable to put together the right search terms to find somewhere to buy it.
Anyone have any tips or links?

Get a roll of 12 to 15mm heat shrink tubing. It's easy to run though the frame. You pull it all the way to the shifter, run the cables through it, then heat any exposed tubing for a nice clean look.

It also makes sense to put some closed cell foam around the lines so they don't slap the downtube, making noise.

Not exactly what I'm looking for, and I'm not sure it'll feed through the frame that easy. The frame holes are fairly tight and the bend around the BB is tricky. So the liner needs to be sort of slick and thick or it will just get hung up. Thanks for the tip though. It's cheap enough I might give it a try if I can't find what I'm looking for.jfranci3 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 6:45 pmGet a roll of 12 to 15mm heat shrink tubing. It's easy to run though the frame. Jagwire makes "inner" liner. As far as I can find, they don't make "outer" liner than a whole housing can be pulled through.
Nope. That's inner liner for actual shifter/brake cables.GiantRider wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 8:25 pmThis stuff?

The black stuff I posted is what he is walking about.
Trust me though- heat strink wrap is the way to fly here. It's stiff enough to push through and it folds for easy feeding. Probably 8mm size for a 5mm hydro brake line with fittings. 12 or 15mm size for brake and shifter.

This is the Jagwire product that often comes pre-installed as housing liner - https://jagwire.com/products/small-part ... ing-damper
It's great to quieting things down, but it's not stiff enough or connected enough (to exit ports or such) that you'd be able to reroute housing through it.

Seems to me the OP is looking for a Park Tool Internal Cable Routing Kit or similar to help route cables through frames that do not have internal giudes.

I'm fully aware of the routing kits for bare frames. That's not what I'm looking for...
I may have to go the heat-shrink route. But what I had before was more durable than that.
I used it many times to slide over the existing housing in the frame, then as I removed the old housing, I fed the new housing in behind it. Once the new housing was fully through, the guide tube was pulled out leaving just the new housing.
The tube provided a nice guide for the new housing to make the various bends in the frame without issue.
I can't remember which frame had this stuff pre-installed. But it was the easiest bare-frame routing I'd ever done and I just kept using it for all other frames since.
It got kinked at one point, so instead of being a guide, it would kink at the BB and the new housing couldn't pass through. So I tossed it, expecting I could just buy a new one when it was time for a new frame.
I am confused as that is literally one of the main functions of the Park Internal Cable Routing kit! Insert the barb into the end of the old housing, pull it out, then the Park cable is not inside the frame. Remove the barb from the old housing, insert barb into the new housing, then pull the cable out and the new housing is pulled through the frame!
