I know of at least one hub that has side play designed in them. That's Zipp hubs. They don't have much but it's noticable. Zipp says that's the way they make them.
Most of my rear hubs make a click or clunk now and then when all the pawls don't quite engage. It's no big deal for me. I haven't had them not engage though. That would change my perspective!
My Zipp's were pretty noisy so I put in a Campy (lighter) spring and a medium thickness grease to quiet them down. They are much quieter now but they do make some clunks and clicks now and then. I've never had them not engage.

mine is only 1g heavier at 65g and yes, much much cheaper!

a smart person should buy the micro hub and then the extralite for the rear as long as it's actually a reliable hub ...it's definitely light, that's for sure!

Acually the new Micro Hub from AM Classic is 58g, so not only is it lighter, it's a lot less.

Very easy call. 8)
