Hello, I'm not familiar with this forum, this is actually my first post.
I'm not such a weight-weenie because i simply don't have the necessary money to buy very light equipment.
I'm a junior-rider in Belgium and ride with this bike:

Frame: Eddy Merckx Premium
Fork: Easton ... (?)
Seatpost: Eddy Merckx
Stem: Deda Newton
Handlebar: Deda Newton
Saddle: Selle San Marco Racing Replica
Cageholders:Tacx Tao
Group: Chorus 2006 (alu crank)
Cables: have absolutely no idea, Campagnolo I presume
Wheels: small budget, so just 1 wheelset:
Mavic Open Pro- Chorus hubs & DT Competition spokes (different wheels on pic)

The bike isn't that light, but it rides quite good.

Still I'm looking for a new bike for season 2007... Suggestions are always welcome

:welcome: on Weight Weenies, Koen. Enjoy the forum and learn a lot about bike equipment.

You sure have a very nice and decent bike for a junior. Good components choice for racing in Belgium: the Premium is a good quality frameset (wit Easton fork indeed) and the Chorus is an excellent group.

Cables are Campagnolo. Saddle is San Marco Regal, same as Tom Boonen uses.

I hope you do well on it.

Does anybody have problems with Tacx Tao Cageholders too?
I have already broken mine 2 tao's...

If you like the bike then keep it...spring for some wheels if you're looking for something new.

Yes, the Tao's just are not strong enough for the work on our flemish cobles.

Welcome to the forum Koen!
I have to say that your Merckx is one of the nicest bikes I'v seen on the forum, ever.
It doesn't have to be all carbon and high-profile-rims to be pretty.

You have a classy bike, race-worthy components (deda newton & co., campy chorus) and super reliable yet top quality wheels. Congratulations on your choices!

I wouldn't change that bike if it fits well!

Stupid as I was (am), I followed this thinking-process: if prof's use them, then it will be a good choice for me too...
Ofcourse, not!

I'm not 100% happy with my wheels, especially on the rear wheel, I has been trued a couple of times. But, in general, they're good wheels.
I'll try to get some better wheels for the coming next season:
something like Corima, Ksyrium ES, ...
still looking

(for money :D )

No prob. They look nice, aren't super expensive. I used them the way pros use them: ride them for 1 or 2.000km, and when they brake of, install new ones.

I've found it quite dangerous:
i was riding the tour of flanders for juniors and on the cobble-section of the 'haaghoek' and suddenly I felt something pushing against my leg:
my cageholder has broken off, fell down so that my bottle was pushing against my leg.
so i threw my bottle away and rode on with 1 tao
...
does elite has the same problem?

I think if I was riding cobbles I'd lean a little toward the Ksyrium SL's as opposed to the ES.
