Any word if shimano plans on making a Dura ace level compact crank. I'm not interested in the R700 crank.

The R700 is a crank at Ultegra level, they plan to bring out a compact crank at 105 level. No plans for a compact at DA level for as far as I know. BTW the Ultegra crank is stiffer than the DA crank, so for a compact it would perhaps be better to go for the stiffer model and not for the lighter DA model...

Problem being that the R700 is quite a bit heavier than something that can be put together in a 3-piece system for the same $$.

My FSA compact is 546g and BB is 155 w/ bolts, so that's less than the D/A already, and the R700 adds nearly 100 grams to that.
