Hi, Just got an SLR. have been using a Flite for all these years, and noticed that the design of the SLR is slightly wider compared to the Flite.

The problem is that my left inner thigh keeps rubbing on the saddle and tears a hole in my shorts after a while!
Might anyone know of a solution?

Strange... I always thought it was the other way 'round; your shorts (and sand) are eating the thin leather cover away. The SLR already is quite smal, so tht wont help you I am afraid. Dont know how to solve your problem. Saddle height is ok?

i believe the height is ok. its at the same height that i've always ridden on.
do you have any experience whereby saddle height has an effect?

FWIW - Awhile back, I had my saddle too far back and it caused my shorts to chafe against the saddle and my inner thigh. I was completely out of a proper cycling position, though.

Your saddle position could be of some importance. I would advice to check your saddle height and set back every time you change the saddle, like you should when you change pedales/cleats.

I've noticed the same thing. My fit is pretty good, I just have big thighs. On a Flite, the radii on the sides of the saddle are so smooth that there isn't an effect. The SLR doesn't curve down so much so it's like an "edge" rubbing my thighs. I haven't worn a hole in a pair of shorts yet but they're wearing prematurely.

I talked to a bloke at Herne Hill velodrome who had the same problem. He reckoned racing on an SLR was like riding on a razorblade - and he had a rip in his shorts to prove it. Personally, I find the SLR XP the perfect training saddle - all depends on your leg shape I guess.
