M2 has begun to advertise these pedals again. Although they were criticized in a previous string on this forum as being dangerous, etc., their dangers and other shortcomings were never clearly stated by riders with first hand experience. In fact they were excoriated by some of the same people who at first criticized Zero Gravity brakes-only to quickly repent when the improved version was released!
What's the experience of real users of these Orb pedals? Have they also been improved? If they're dangerous, and they may well be, what are the dangers?

I've been testing out a pair for a couple of weeks.
Haven't had any big problems, though they do give me
a big stack height with my Nike shoes. It's also
a bit of a trick get the right number of shims in the cleat so that
the pedal attaches firmly but still rotates.

Are these pedals dangerous in any way? If so, what are the dangers?

There are a couple of possibilities for dangers:

* in addition to rotational float (like Speedplays), the orbs
allow side-to-side (Q-factor) play. Might be possible to slip
up in a hard sprint or a tight corner

* there's a second way to release: point toe slightly
out and push hard forward. This could mean unexpected
release for a duckfooted sprinter. M2Racer makes this sound like a feature
but I wonder. (I'm pigeon-toed so I don't worry anyway.)

Thanks for your input! These pedals sound too dangerous for my taste. I'll stick with Speedplays.

Hi,

Anymore people have first hand experience with these pedals?

I noticed that aebike.com is selling them for $163 US dollars.
http://aebike.com/site/page.cfm?PageID=30&SKU=PD2700

Going to m2racer's website sells them $228 US dollars.
http://www.m2racer.com/products.php?cat=2

They are really light at 140g for a pair of pedals including the cleats.
I'm just curious.

I'm using look PP-396 right now and they are tanks, but at least
I can use the same shoe on my bike and when I take indoor cycling classes. :)

Thanks,

Try-Athlete
