check out petachi's cranks they look like they have a cut out of them. Maybe its just my eyes planing tricks on me

Looking at the pic I notice (as you did) something unusual... But it sounds strange that Campy is testing a new alu crankset, while they manufacture two different carbon ones.
I cannot see the point of a lighter Record alu cranckset... when carbon ones are already 130 gr lighter...

If we're looking at the same pic - to me it looks like shoe rub on the crank arm just below the campy logo.
