Look at Simoni's bike. He uses the right brake lever for the front brake, just to save some weight
and a rear brake in the front

I seem to remember that his father in law, Francesco Moser, had the same cable arrangements.

Actually its not really done for weight but its Italian tradition to route cables this way (what we would call reverse). I don't think they do it to lose a few grams, just do it because it was what their Dads did.

Its also seen on most pro cyclocross riders. Seems its easier to regulate the rear brake while dismounting if the cables are reversed (ie: left=rear). I race cross and though about changing my cable routing but figured I'd go ass over T kettle the first few times so I descided against.

I've thought about doing the same of putting a rear caliper in front - yes for weight weenyiness - but it would stay only if it stops decent.....but with the short center shaft and no room for a threaded sleeve to mate to an added length of threaded rod, it must take a specially machined new shaft or way, way longer Ti/steel allen head nut.........mmmm does anyone know how long of allen head nuts one can readily buy?

Never known to run my brakes any other way.

It's just the way everyone does it in England, left lever is the rear brake, right lever is the front brake.

I do get some strange looks over here in the states though!

nearly everyone here..... i use the same as in the states!!

if you find some old english brake calipers you may notice they are routed on the oposite side to modern ones

We motorcycle riders often route our cables with the front brake on the right-hand lever. Hate to dump either type of bike while I am thinking which lever to pull. Sure screws up the local LBS. They always want to switch it back to backwards.

All my bikes are front brake on the RHS.
Maybe its to do with the side of the road we drive/ride on?

I've ridden with some single speeders and they don't even HAVE brakes! Perhaps the truest of weight weenies in this world.

Bobalou, I think you mean a fixedbike. That's a real different world! It's the bike's they use in velodromes.

Ahh, yes. You're right, my bad. Anyway, nobody told them (the fixies) to not ride on the road! Not sure I'm ready to try that (yet).

To me, the real weight weenie of the Pro peloton is Toni Rominger and his '93 Vuelta bikes.
