Need Help Getting To 12Lbs.
Moderator: robbosmans
Had LBS swap Sram Red cranks w/Rotor "Quarbon"(50/34)in favor of Clavicula Classic on the Zero.7 and it went from 6.66 to 6.19kg(14.6-13.65lbs). I now want to hit 12-something. Should I buy the THM Fibula or get a new saddle 100g or below? An employee said I could try the Turbo Cotton's, but I hate the Old School look of the side walls(already lived through that time period). I guess I could also go the eeBrake route

Am I missing a build list somewhere? Hard to make recommendations when we don't know about your ride. Cheap Chinese saddle sounds horrible. If you're considering a saddle buy a nice lighter saddle with some flex in it. I'm guessing as you have an RCA you can afford an Ax or Berk?

A current build list and budget limitations would be helpful. Help us help you.

I have one (cheap chinese saddle) on both of my road bikes. As long as you're wearing halfway decent bibs, it's fine.4ibanez wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2018 11:47 pmAm I missing a build list somewhere? I'm 68kg and have no problems doing centuries on them and largely forget they're there.
Everyone is different, but they aren't inherently less comfortable than any other minimalist saddle.
Cheap does not necessarily mean 'not nice'. These won't win any beauty contests, but they are very well made and have a reasonable amount of flex.

Two these two statements: true, then debatable.
First statement: tendency, yes. 17 "afforable" carbon saddles purchased over a period of 5 years, 2 failed at the joint of rails to saddle.
Second statement: disagree strongly if this is a general statement. It largely depends on which of the non-boutique carbon saddles you are referring to, I've tried 17 of them. Only one had any reasonable flex that can be offered from the likes of Berk or SMUD, and that would be Merek's saddles with their "x-wing" design - but if flex were to be quantitative: the Berk and SMUD would flex at a level of 10 whereas the Merek could flex at a 8, and all others flexed at 1. Merek had to resort to a redesign of their rails in order to achieve a flex that comes close to the Berk or SMUD saddles.
The others are very stiff, and to your point about personal opinion, these were too stiff for my tastes. I do not consider .001mm movement to be flexy.
Since the goal on this site is reduction of mass, and this thread is for an RCA build, let's talk mass:
the majority of Merek x-wing saddles hover over 100g.
The best of the Merek x-wing saddles is their super-short variety (ie, power-saddle style) that comes in under 100g.
The Berk saddles (Lupina) are around 70g.
The SMUD saddle (which is technically my favorite saddle ever, just not being used at the moment) is around 64g.

Really depends on your budget and how far your willing to go.
I would get the EE brakes and one of Jures saddles, that will drop the weight to your intended target. To loose more weight go with the other suggestions and get tubulars with some carbons.
