An elevated heart rate could be any hundreds of things. It could be the problem (i.e. some sort of congestive heart failure), or could be a sympton of something entirely unrealted (such as an illness like the flu or pneumonia), just go see your doc if your HR hasn't settled itself.

Anyway, shouldn't a 15 year old be in school at this hour?

What language do you speak? The worst thing that can happen to your heart is nothing - go out and climb the biggest hill you can find. Try to get your heart rate up to 300. It's really cool what happens. Please try. Soon.

Please make it stop...

Worst case? Possible calcification of an artery somewhere or some minor blockage causing your heart to have to work over time. The calcification can happen, even to extreamly fit individuals. A resting heart rate in the 120's is scary. I'd get on the phone with the Doc and go get a heart scan or at least go in for a check up.

You sure your heart rate monitor is working right? You check your pulse in your wrist for 15 seconds and then multiply by 4 and get in the 120's?

- Zipp rims will break if you look at them too hard
- R-Sys wheels will spontaneously explode
- The ZG crankset will never, ever exist
- Everyone needs Lightweights, even if they're fat and old
- Parts actually made of metal are SO 10 years ago

Might be 2 million of the however many hundreds of millions on Medicare... It's really scary how many people don't have any sort of health insurance, or have such poor coverage that any sort of major medical issue would be devistating to their way of life.

But back on topic...

If you're HR is still up, best to go find a zip-loc bag, a sock, and a can of wd-40. Soak the sock with WD-40, place it in the bag and place over your face to breathe... this should slow your heart-rate in a matter of minutes...

dbecks- go talk to your folks and get them to set up a physical with your Primary Care Physician or Family Dr. (whatever you have). Let the dr know up front what your concern is (elevated heart rate in nearly all conditions). Otherwise he'll just be feeling around in the dark looking at stuff and have no idea what may be wrong.

Also instead of sitting on the couch watching porn while wearing your HR monitor try laying down for a nap on the couch and see what happens.

I just checked my HR sitting here in my chair at work and it was 59 bpm.

Come on man, the kid's 15. He's born in the 90s. I'm probably older than his dad for heaven's sake. Parental supervision is required here...

Kid, stop worrying, I had the same thing. Stay off the coke/caffeine and suger after a ride and stop riding at 185 for hours on end.

Work the heard but cool down and rest it as well.

I had hyper tachycardia which is a fast beat but this is usually a result of a serious exertion and got better 10 mins after I stopped.

Get a heart scan to look for any issues - probably none but stay off the coffee, coke, suger etc..
