Lighter disc brake adapters.
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi,
I'm bulding up (slowly) a frame with Flat Mount disc. However, I have post mount calipers so I need adapters.
I simply bought the Shimano adapters, but was surprised by the weight (100g for both adapters + bolts).
Is there an affordable weight weenie reliable alternative to Shimano adapters?
Would flat mount brakes save me a lot of weight (probably lighter adapters)?
Flat mount brakes would look cleaner but I'm not sure if it is worth the expense.

Which levers are you going to be using, mechanical or hydro? How much do your current calipers weigh? 100g for the adapters and hardware is quite a bit considering a TRP Spyre Flat Mount is 10g lighter than the post mount version.
I have Br-r785 calipers right now (and thus hydro levers). The reason it is so much more is because the frame is made for flat mount, I think. Br-r785 calipers and br-rs805 weigh approximately the same according to sites. But then again, measurements rarely include the adapters.

These KCNC are possibly some of the lightest,

Ashima make light PM to PM adaptors and may do flat to PM as well,
or the try TRP ones,

The KCNC ones weigh 94g for the pair (possibly bolts not included). The Ashima's come in at 120g . Turns out adapters are just really heavy. Haven't found a weight on the TRP ones so far, but considering they look the same and are made from the same material... (Thanks for the site though, does provide clarity)

I'm pretty sure those weights include the bolts, (which are stainless steel ) swapping them out for Ti would give a bit of a saving.
But they are always going to be more than flat mount callipers on there own,
