Hello, I need some advice:
Ive just scored a Basso Diamante 40th Anniversary frameset for a great price, and was thinking about doing a modern retro build, its gonna be a bike Ill ride every day but not race.
The Frame

So I was thinking of going with Campagolo Potenza in Silver, and some deeper profile Hunt Wheels polshed silver aero wide wheels
Look something like:

Or like:
Image although of course with a more modern frame style
Thoughts? Other options? I could go NOS 10 speed metal Record but guess it would actually be more expensive and no better than Potenza? The other option would be Campagnolo Chorus, modern in which case Id go for a modern black wheelset like Fulcrum Racing Zero Dark

This is a top frame as good as any other top carbon frame you can imagine. It has a 'vintage' painjob but there is nothing vintage about it.
It certainly deserves, at least, a Campagnolo Chorus groupset and proper carbon wheels.

10speed parts are totally irrelevant IMO.

I would too vote for the black Chorus. Ultrashift is worth the difference imo. Also, with those modern fat tubes, the alu parts and rims will look like too much (besides being heavy). And again, with those fat tubes, it will never be a real retro bike (as the blue one pictured). The paintjob is a sufficient nod to the past.

The Basso frames all look superb.
I wish i could use such long and low frame, my back could just no handle that.

Build it up like it is in the first picture, but maybe with Boras instead of those "microtechs".

Agreed. It's a modern frame so I personally wouldn't go retro. Italian components for sure!

Bike of this caliber needs a modern groupset and cockpit.

I recommend SR Mechanical and Boras.

I agree with the above, especially if it comes with that seat post and stem.
Keep it modern, and maybe throw some gumwalls on for a more oldschool feel.

Thanks guys, pretty consistent views across the board. Its replacing an F8 which got nicked and, given I got the frameset for under 2000 Euros, its gonna have to be Chorus groupset and Ill buy some bling wheels next year, gonna keep my progress (spanish brand, chinese made) for now until I can afford wheels which do it right.

Go modern like that bike is designed. For me those two examples looks ugly with fat tubes and modern design.

Tbh if I would go "modern retro" only frame option would be vintage/classic looking steel.
And if I would like to get vintage groupset which work great DA7400 STI would be good choise. Shift almost as good as modern Shimano (actually that 25y old Shimano shift better than my 10sp Red from 2012  ) but still vintage and pretty cheap. Okey its not Italian but still vintage and fit well with vintage bikes...
