What are the best overshoes now? Just need them to keep the water out, not much insulation is needed, what can you recommend?

velotoze do keep rain off
but I accidentally destroyed mine even though followed instructions

Currently using BBB neoprene which are okay in a light drizzle
In heavier rain they only keep feet dry for 5 minutes or so

As most things in life it's not that simple or easy... There is a massive thread about it some were here. The short answer is ... you have to seal the top of the overshoe to your skin, and some people say you need a front fender.

I have cheap and expensive overshoes and the all work as long as I seal the top with a diving cuff, cut to size. I use a rear fender but no front. The question becomes how much rain for how long of a ride... 3 hour I would guess most "water proof" overshoes work, 5 to 6 hours in pouring rain then you are going to have to go velotoze or gore-tex. And then you are going to have breathability issues.

Velotoze + tape on the holes of the shoes (and also above the screws of the cleats under the sole)

Velotoze is awesome but it's a pain in the ass to put on and off.

Definitely tape the vents shut which helps during wet and cold season.

Best thing to do is have separate gears for wet and dry riding.

Good luck!

I'm a size 44 in Gaerne. Bought size M Velotoze as recommend by LBS. Really nice tight fit but a nightmare to put on and even worse getting them off. Next time I'll get size L.

What do you guys think about waterproof socks? I saw these on Ribble:

I tried pretty much everything last winter here, also the Sealskinz sock & overshoes, etc.....Nothing is better than velotoze 8)

One of big disadvantage of all these socks is that you cannot wear them in your (tight) summer shoes. So you end up having to use them in "larger" shoes or to have another pair of shoes; Then you can buy a "winter" shoe with Goretex etc....(which are usually not 100% waterproof).

The only disadvantage of the Velotoze is that they are not "breathable". But having said that I never had problems with cold feet even after a 5 hours rides in the rain 8)

I’m actually tempted by the sealz overshoes, I have some overshoes with neoprene and then when it’s a bit colder, I have a pair of specialized winter shoes, so for me they are just for this crossover period

Check out Spatz - https://www.spatzwear.com/

Local company to me, haven't tried them yet but by all accounts they're brilliant.

Velotoze are great. You can wear neoprene over the top of them in winter to keep your feet warm and dry.
