Some of the routes my 1000 creates haven't been ideal. I needs to see one in person and compare them side by side. I have the silicone case on my 1000 so the color is irrelevant, I'm sure the 1030 will have the same available.

Use strava if you are not familiar with the area. The route planning feature on their website uses more commonly used roads when you click in the general direction you want to go. I used to travel quite a bit for work, so I've had to make my fair share of routes on roads I knew next to nothing about.
Also, I think Strava heat map has more users contributing so more data.

Would be awesome if they just gave in and went to an SPD-SL platform...

You can get Vector 2 and buy Garmin's Ultegra pedal adapter kit.

Wonder if Garmin will offer a similar adapter kit for the Vector 3?

Not going to happen this time unfortunately. The Vector 3 pedal body has an integrated battery compartment. The old pedals were generic Exustars with all the electronics in the antenna pods and spindles.

Don't really see the problem. Keo and SPD-SL are essentially the same IMHO.

Haven't used SPD-SL myself, but people I trust who have switched say it's a lot easy to blindly clip-in than KeO.

I switch between the two on my bikes, no real difference in clip in IMHO. Where spd wins is the clips are wider so feel as if they give a more solid platform, they are also better to walk in and don't have the squeak issue that the keo non slip cleats have.

My Vector 2s don't squeak at the cleat interface either, but the right pedal body or the cartridge developed play in a little over a year. Every time I hit the power phase with my right leg, it clicks at the 3 o'clock position.

Has anyone moved from 1000 to 1030, yet?

I can get an 1030 at an LBS for $420, though I am not sure it is justifiable...
