Thinking of one of these two frames. Having a hard time deciding between the two as they are both very nice.

So Madone is aero, Emonda is not. Madone is heavier and Emonda is lighter. Madone has proprietary integration, Emonda doesn't (does have seatpost topper). Madone has IsoSpeed, Emonda doesn't.

I assume there is a 250-300g penalty with the Madone. What about comfort and stiffness between the two? I know the Emonda revision was just released so there won't be many, if any reviews of it yet.

Is the big knock against the Madone when comparing with the Emonda the weight penalty and the proprietary aspect of it?

The 2018 Madone 9.0 uses a standard stem, it's also dropped a lot in price.

Seems a lot of bike for the money, different wheels and it's quite a bike.

I know you mentioned frameset but this is coming in at less than just the 2017 frameset only.

Whole bike same price as frameset, not sure what's different but it's come down a lot!

Trek Madone is a pure race machine with ~19 watts advantage over non-aero bike. If you don't race, Emonda is no-brainer.

In case you haven't seen this https://cyclingtips.com/2015/07/first-l ... rek-madone and https://cyclingtips.com/2014/07/test-ri ... rek-emonda

That is a lot of bike for $4k.

Having ridden both, if I had to make do with one bike, I'd go with the Madone, it's as comfortable as the Emonda and in my my opinion the weight difference is small enough that you won't notice it, the integration although adding complication, looks good and isn't that difficult to manage once you're used to it (referring to packing it in a bike box for travel).

Except the brakes are a pain in the arse to maintain when they cop road muck from wet days out.

madone is named after a mountain climb (which we all probably know already), funny that, for an aero bike.
new stem is ugly, imho, maybe you could get a good price on 2017 as it could be on sale.

as far asthtetics, madone=bling, emonda=elegance.

Although, Contador rode his Émonda throughout the TdF, I think Mollema as well.

Emonda is obviously the "pure race machine". The 19 watts advantage calculations are only good for Trek's marketing department, not the racing team.
