A friend who is very tall (198 cm), has a BMC Road Machine disc and that is how his came from the factory. He recently completed a very mountainous week long tour along the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina and said his bike worked flawlessly up and downhill.

Has anyone used XTR 9100 with Dura Ace 9170 levers? From my research that should work... What do you guys think?

Pretty sure that would be fine. I have used XT calipers in the past.

I called Shimano overhere and asked about the XTR calipers for my 6870 (i have a set laying here).
Shimano, during discussion told me there are no spare parts for sale for XTR?
Also, the mech in our Shimano center, told me there's less oil in the reservoir?
They are less durable, in search for weight savings, some less durable materials have been used?

I know you'd best use another hose and need new nipples and inserts.

I have 6870 with 785 shifters and those are disc brakes.
How do you use XTR calipers with 6870 rim shifters?

Surely you mean BR-R785 or BR-785, that's what ST-R785 used to come with. Shimano made no 6800-series disc brake parts, only non-series.

Yes, those are the calipers i have. The black RS version, non banjo. But i also have XTR BRM 9000 calipers (as spare).
Both post mount if that matters!?
But the shifters are Shimano Road Di2 ST-R785.
I meant the groupset otherwise are 6870.

My understanding is that 9100 and 9000 are fully compatible
Colnago C-59 (Dura Ace)
Firefly(Ultegra)
Colnago C-64 disc(ultegra) with Bora 35 wheels

Your importer might not bring in the part assemblies (caliper/lever/hose kit) but you can get them in much of europe. Technically, shimano provide no "spares" for most of their brakes. Just the assemblies. You want a seal, or a piston, you're shit out of luck.

Doesn't really make any difference, the stroke/bore of the piston is exactly the same. If it was different, you might eventually drain the reservoir completely, before the pads wear out.

And? Don't leave them coated in shit or treat them like a 20 euro set of BSO brakes and they'll last for years.

The previous road hydraulics used the BH59. On the BH90, when I cut the hoses, I see that the insides are slightly different. Looks to be more of a reinforced hose. Because I didn't want to reroute my front hose and bleed them again since there was nothing wrong with it...it has BH59 and the rear I had to redo and that I put BH90. There is a firmer feeling with the braking...but can't be certain as there's more hose length to the rear than to the front. Although when I had the BH59 on the rear, it didn't feel as 'firm' as the BH90 that I currently have.

I'm certain the hoses are interchangeable, but since the BH90 is a better hose, I think they dropped the BH59 references.

Not sure where I had read about Shimano advocating BH90 hoses over BH59 for road applications (might have been a previous WW disc brake thread_), but I do find it interesting that the 9150 Di2 dealer manual references BH90, not BH59.

Following up on this thread.

Waiting for a BreadWinner Lolo Disc, and suddenly realized that they stick to IS mount on the rear, so i'm looking for alternatives to the flatmount DA calipers i had in mind.

Thinking of putting DA 9170 levers with XTR br9100 calipers with straight hoses. From what i understand the BH90 hoses are the way to go for this - but is there anything else i should be aware of?

The best are Trickstuff C22 Flatmount. Only problem is availability and finding shops, especially if you are outside of Europe.

Another aftermarket caliper is the Hope RX4+, which will be easier to find.

Current generation Shimano brakes, BR-R9270, are a good choice and the easiest swap.

You can also run Campagnolo (Magura) calipers: https://velo.outsideonline.com/road/roa ... -mash-ups/
