On the market for a new wheelset and I wanted an all black Al for this bike I'm building. Hed's offerings are too much $$$ so I narrow it down to these two which are at the same price and weight.

So far these are my pros and cons:

Shamal Mille
Pro:

    Weight
    Price
    Looks
    Tubeless Ready
    Stiffness
    Cult bearings
Con:
    Narrow rims
Complaints about the black brake track wearing it down
Complaints about noise when braking the rear wheel
    Campagnolo with shimano groupset

Ksyrium Pro Exalith:
Pro:

    Weight
    Looks
    Comes with tyres
    Mavic with Shimano wheelset
Seems relieable that the brake track color won't fade
Con:
    Not tubeless ready
    Narrow(ish) rim
A little bit more expensive than the Shamal

Any users of these wheels care to add something?

Are you sure the Milles are tubeless ready? I thought only the 2 way version with the silver alloy brake pad were tubeless.

Because it's a con? I wan't to run a 25mm tyre and would like a large rim width which gives the best rolling resistance and lower psi (more confort).

Mavic Con- crappy hubs
Shamal Mille Con- crappy surface treatment

I'd just go for regular Shamal or Fulcrum Zero

The machined pattern on each are different. Shamals and Fulcrum are grooved in concentric rings, so it increases the surface area of the pad contact. The Mavics are grooved across the brake tract, so it increases the abrasion.

Mavic hubs are pants. I'd bet on a Campag wheel lasting far longer and being more reliable than a Mavic wheelset although not in terms of the black floating thingy!

And remove all decals on the Mille and you are golden.

As ultyguy said both have issues... hand build 32 spoke wheel and save up for the new Heds and by time you have the $ there will be feedback on the finish... I think it's new this year..

I went with the Milles..check my posts for my build Helium/eps thread.
Campag hubs way more durable and MUCH better and less draggy freehub! Think the Mavic surface treatment is better dialled but I'd rather have the Shamals and wear marks...they'll still brake as well!!

i've had the milles for 8 months now and love them. no wear marks at all (although i am a bit of a fair-weather rider). the first pair of pads wear faster than normal, but after that, they wear better. the only time i've had 'squeal' is when the first set of pads had worn past the mark.

there are lots of posts for both wheels saying they wear badly and plenty for both that say they don't - so good luck with that...

Why don't you give the Campy Bora One's a good look. They have everything you are looking for and Starbike has the best prices. I picked up a pair after extensive research and absolutely love them. This is the first time now in 12+ years I now stopped looking at other wheels.. it just doesn't get any better. I running Schwalbe Pro One tubeless... fast..
