Need a good value climbing cassette: 11-30, or 11-32 (SRAM/Shimano)

Building a rear wheel for climbs. Thinking Zipp 202 tubular (see a nice offer on it at the moment), and 11-32. Don't want to spend mega bucks on the cassette though, and the best ones seem too expensive for me to justify.

Any ideas on a decent one, something relatively light? Going to try and make it work with SRAM's eTap short cage derailleur, so finger's crossed.

Oh and what about a good tubular? Never bought a tub before, no clue what's good. Will really just be used for hill PRs and rides where I have to face 20% etc.

Zipp202 nice offer? Where? For me I recently switched to tubs and freaking love the way it rides and rolls.

I use a 11/32 SRAM with 52/36QXL on my addict. It's more than plenty to take 25%+ climbs.. Just pauper painful to grind uphill for my weak legs haha

£619 at Tredz right now (have to use that Mayday code).

If you spot something cheaper though let me know :P

Haven't pulled the trigger yet. Looking like Ultegra 11-32 cassette and Corsa G tubular (grey one).

Sounds like you know what you are doing, but are you aware of the gear spacing on the 11 - 32? I have the 11 - 32 ultegra casette and I'm not too fond of the jumps between individual cogs, i.e. I have cadence problems, where one gear is too low (equates to cadence 115 + at given speed) and the next gear is too high (cadence below 100)... just sayin'

Running the 11 - 32 with a long-arm Ultegra derailleur (Shimano specifically states to use the long arm one, I ran the standard short arm without any problems for a while...)

I run a 12 - 25 on my other bike and it is MUCH better.

I would recommend you run 12 - 28 and different chainrings imo.

see related thread link to compare 11-30,11-32,12-32 - looks like this one is good:
Miche 12-32T

12-32T 12_13_14_15_17_19_21_23_25_28_32
jumps: +08+08+07+13+12+11+10+09+12+14% (big mid-cassette jumps: 13.33%)

62,95€

Hmm. Yeah I've no clue about how the spacing feels, only had 11-25 and 11-28s before. There's two of us going to use it is the thing. Me and the missus. She's on a compact already with an 11-28 and she's a mess on the 20% stuff. Like about to fall over kinda mess. I can change my inner ring granted, and I will buy one, maybe a 34Q, but a specific easy to throw on climbing rear would be really convenient for us.

EDIT: Thanks ooo, going to go over that now!

Any reason why you can't buy Miche 12-32 in the UK? Not popular for some reason I'm unaware of? On paper this looks perfect..

(edit: oops, looks like it's company from Italy, but they have UK phone and no problems with shipping)

UK link:
https://www.lordgunbicycles.co.uk/miche-light-primato-11s-shimano-cassette

downside: its weight 378g, for comparison 11-32 CS-5800 is 320g, 11-32 CS-6800 is 292g
if shimano will release 11-30 ultegra cassette this summer - this may be lighter alternative

I understand, I would therefore go as narrow as you can afford to go, but the 12 - 32 does look OK...

SRAM Red 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-22-25-28-32 196 grams
SRAM 1170 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-22-25-28-32 300
SRAM 1170 11-12-13-15-17-19-22-25-28-32-36 366
Shimano DA9100 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-21-24-27-30 211
Shimano Ultegra 11-12-13-14-16-18-20-22-25-28-32 292
Shimano 105 11-12-13-14-16-18-20-22-25-28-32 320
Miche Primato 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-21-24-27-30 315
Miche Primato 12-13-14-15-17-19-21-23-25-28-32 378

Formatting is not perfect. First column is name. Second set of numbers with dashes is the cog ratios. All 11 speed. Last number is grams.

For weight. Red wins with Dura Ace just a little behind. But with Red you get 32 cog, DA is only 30 cog. Next is the 1170 and Ultegra 11-32 cassettes for weight. Have to decide which middle cogs work best for you. SRAM has 14-15-17-19-22 while Shimano uses 14-16-18-20-22. All other cogs are same.

Thanks Russ, that's given me a change of heart now..

The weight of the SRAM Red is too dreamy. Going to get the 1170 now and see how I find the spacing on it. If it's liveable, and works on the derailleur, will put some wear on it then use it on the turbo and upgrade to the SRAM Red when I'm less cash conscious.

Shame, the 12-32 Miche looks best, but the weight in the end.. :P

A shimano Ultegra cassette is $50. What am I missing. It's not a high cost item

English comprehension perhaps?

The high end ones are in the league of SRAM Red, £200 (260USD). No-one said Ultegra was high cost (though in the UK they're around 70 to 80USD, not 50). As for the good value ones, yes Ultegra is one of them, but not the only one, hence the thread canvassing for opinions. Go out and ride your bike and stop being an arse on the internet 8)
