i've had similar experience with a Phill Wood hub, which has a steel free hub. I spec Sram when I can.

Cannot stress how much better a design this is, much easier on freehubs, perfect cog/ramp alignment, lighter! Down side is price!!! Image

Indeed. My only gripe is that Sram didn't machine down the aluminum big cog at the edge to match the thickness on the rest of the cogs. This makes it a noisy drivetrain when on the largest cog. A thicker cog and an angled chain make noise. Besides this oversight the Sram Red cassette is awesome.

Agree about all the pluses with the Sram red cassette........ i just wish I could get it to shift as well as the DA9000 cassette with my 9150 drive train :(

What's your shifting issue? I'm currently using the Red cassette and Dura Ace 9070. Just a note here.....I purposely back off both limit screws on the rear derailleur. Since the Dura Ace rear derailleur overshifts then goes back to the normal position, I find that setting the limits will hinder shifting performance on the 11th or the largest cog when not setup correctly. I find no purpose to have a limit thus I purposely backed off both screws so that the derailleur will move as much as it wants to electronically. I have no shifting issue at all with the Red cassette. I once had an issue with shifting onto the 28th cog but backing off both the low and high limits solved the problem.

Exactly this. I love the weight of the Red cassette as well as how easy it is on freehubs. But I cannot get it to shift down well in the smallest cogs on my 9100.

So, if anyone wants an 11/28 red cassette with 120 miles - drop me a line :)

I got lucky and scored a DA 12-28 cassette on Ebay for $112. So now I will have the perfect gearing.

Try backing out the high limit screw all the way out on the rear derailleur. Watch the rear derailleur action. It should over shift then one second later move back to the correct position. Please try this and report back.

Not sure what the limit screw would have to do with the 3rd and 4th cogs :noidea:

You had said 'smallest cogs' which could either mean 1) the smallest cog, or 2) the last few cogs. In English one would not put 'smallest' and a plural noun in the same sentence.

What happens if you adjust the derailleur 'down' by one or two clicks? Does that affect upshifts? If so on which gears?

I used to have an issue downshifting to the smallest (11) cog. After backing off the limit screw all is well now.

Yep, been there tried that, perfect with RD9070, ordinary with RD9150. Started a thread a few weeks ago but don't know how to link it. Not only the extremities but at times the cogs in between................. :?

That's weird. I wish to know the answer as I will eventually upgrade to 9150 and I don't ever want to go back to Dura Ace cassettes.

Has anyone compared the cog spacing between a Sram Red and Dura Ace 9100 cassette? I recall someone had done it for the 9000 and there was a very small difference between Red and 9000. I can't imagine that 9100 is now different from 9000? That doesn't make sense but it's the only explanation...

Maybe a redundant question but I assume your 9000 cassette works perfectly with 9150? So in a nutshell both Red and 9000 cassettes work perfectly with 9070 (it did for me) but only 9000 works with 9150.....
