Im riding Specialized S-Works 2014 shoes for two years, and after first period of pain in the feet, they feel very nice (stiff, light, on the fly adjustability..) The size number is 27.5 cm or 43.

Today in my local shop they have on stock few pairs of Gaerne G.Stilo+ 2017

http://www.gaerne.com/cycling/en/artico ... ilo/black/

And they have in sizes im interested. I can see that size 43 is 27 cm, size 44 is 27.5 (this feel big), and also there is size 43 1/2 and there is no cm printed on this size? So does someone know what is the size difference between 43 and 43 1/2 of this shoes? Does that mean that 43 1/2 should be 27.25 cm or 27 cm as well (like 43), but maybe bigger space in volume?

And cant find any review of this shoes.. What is ur opinion specialy compared to Specialized S-Works shoes?

So you can try and compare them at your local bike shop?

What do you want more? :?

And start asking your questions to the people there.
When going to the shop take your old shoes with you and a tapemeasure.

The thing is that, they have just a few pairs for first time, and still nobody have experience riding them.

In the shop can be one feeling, on the pedals different. And i asked the questions there, but since not so experienced with those models, dont really know..

So that why i posted a question here.. If someone have experience with owning them, or riding them, and maybe to compare to S-Works shoes ....

The first thing i dont like it is the weight: As i can see they are claimed 275 gm, while S-Works 6 211 gm (64 gm difference per shoe is not small difference in my eyes (130 gm per pair).

Anyway i'll go next week to try them for at least hour (in the shop), but i'll be very thankfull if someone who actually have experience with Gaerne to share that experience here.

I ride with Gaerne G Chrono which is practically the older G Stilo. These are best shoes I ever had (after DMT, Sidi and Vittoria). Handmade in Italy (yes, it matters), light, superstiff sole, top heel support, trusty BOA closure and great looks.
S-works are not that well made IMHO and the heel design is almost... non-existent. Certainly not as durable as the Gaerne either. Too expensive for what you get IMHO.

Gaerne shoes have a bit too pointy toebox.
This is a trick to cope with a larger range of different feet.
Sadly my feet don't like it.

I will definetly give them a chance and try them a bit more detailed.

In meanwhile i measured my S-Works gen 5 in 43 size, and with cleats they weight 269 gm (cleats + hardware is 66 gm), so this put them 203 gm per shoe (very light). Claimed weight for G.Stilo is 275 gm per shoe, so big weight difference. I'll try to mesure them as well to know exact difference.

How imortant is weight savings on shoe? If we pay a lot of money to save 150 gm on frame or other parts, i guess here counts as well? Or it's not the same weight importancy as other components?

Another thing which also prefer on S-Works, they feel a bit stiffer (i guess better for transfering the power).

Anyway, as i said.. I'll try to analyze them more detailed in personal next working day and to give them a chance

And @KGT do u have idea what is length difference in cm between 43 (which is 27 cm), and 43 1/2 (no printed cm size on this). On 44 is 27.5 cm. I e-mailed Gaerne about this, but it will be nice if someone asnwer me this if someone know...

You cant go wrong with Gaerne. Better made than Specialized by a long margin. The Stilo sole is really stiff so not sure how the could feel less stiff than Specialized. The fit is a lot like the higher end sidi's, and the feel/support is really fantastic. I had the plastic base support for the lower Boa dial crack on one pair of G-Stilos after a year and half of heavy use, which kind of sucked, but I quickly replaced them with another pair of the same and use the damaged ones for wet/dirty conditions. I have the Olympia MTB shoes, one pair of G-Chronos and two pair of G-Stilos. Very good shoes, and the handmade in Italy is readily apparent.

@Rio
I wear 44 which is 27,5cm but don't know about half sizes. Now if your main priority is the lowest weight then there are other options (Mavic, Giro etc.). But you know it's the same with frames. You may think that the lighter the better but truth is that some of the best frames are the heaviest (see Colnago).
BTW I agree with wheelbuilder. No way an s-works' sole is stiffer. Maybe the shoes are softer that's why you feel the sole is stffer. Gaerne is a stiffer and better built shoe overall. Remember that Greipel rides with Gaerne.

I just get back from the shop and i had chance to try them for 15 minutes (i was in hurry).

Also i picked with me digital scale, so i can provide actual weight. Declared weight of G.Stilo+ is 275gm (they are not saying what number), but actial weight for 43 is 292 gm (Specialized S-Works 43 that im using actual weight 207 gm), and 43 1/2 is 296 gm).

So the actual weight difference between S-Works and G.Stilo+ per pair is: 170 gm if i go 43 or 178 gm if i go 43 1/2.

Tried to compare lenght difference between 43 and 43 1/2, and to me they look like same lenght, but 43 1/2 have higher volume in the front. On first sight they both look good for me, but if i buy them probably i'll go 43 1/2 (feel a bit more comfortable).

Other thing that i dont like (except weight which is not small difference), is that my heel is not that good secured in place as on S-Works shoes (i feel on Gaerne like i can lift a little bit, while that is not the case on S-Works im using).

And what to expect for this shoes..Should i expect any streching after a while or not? If i should expect than maybe 43, if not 43 1/2

Has anyone looked at or tried the 2017 Carbon Chrono as well. From the looks of it they've updated it to the point that it's much like the last year's Stilo. Anyone been able to compare the two (2017 models)?

I have both the 2015/6 with the velcro toe strap and 2017 Stilo+ in 43

What i can say is the 2017 is much more snug fitting than the 2015/6, especially in the toe box area. Wearing the correct sock helps me. The initial putting on of the shoe is fine but the snug fit is immediately felt. After 5min of riding its all good and no problem of being to tight or hot spots. I guess there is a bit of stretch and conforming happing. no problems with +4hr rides

comparing them to the Sidi Ergo , Ergo2 - they had to be 43,5
Bontrager XXX (or something) was 43
Specialised Sworks - 43

the Gaerne's are by far better of the lot. Comfy, Adjustable and No Heel Slip. could be lighter but hey weight is not everything :sorry: :noidea:

Ok. Seem that i have another option for new shoes and it's Shimano S-Phyre RC9

For this one, i need to travel 250 km to try them (i'll try to find time for that next week).

I need ur opinion.. How u consider this Shimano shoes compared to G.Stilo and Specialized S-Works (i'll also try new S-Works on that travel).

They are all the same price.

Im specialy interested in KGT opinion about Shimano S-Phyre RC9

Thanks

I am also interested in these shoes. I have the S-Works 6 and really like them but they hurt my ankles because they are so tight and stiff there.
I am a little worried about the Gaerne toe box because the previous S-Works had a narrow and stiff toe box and I could not even wear them.
Is there much difference between the 2017 G.Stilo+ and previous G.Stilo. I can't get the G.Stilo+ in the US so I would not be able to return if it doesn't fit.

I tried on a pair of Shimano S-Phyre and the arch was way too high near my heel, felt like there was a rock in the shoe.
