Shimano Dura Ace power meter availability
Moderator: robbosmans
Probikekit is taking pre-orders for an Aug 18 availability. It's the only reference to it I can find. My LBS says it's "a ways out". Does anyone have any other info? That seems like a huge delay since initially Shimano was targeting May 2017.

a few months delay in this industry is not 'huge', it's barely the blink of an eye, some things take years to be be available (or are quietly cancelled)
for example... http://www.bikeradar.com/road/news/arti ... ter-46366/
seems unlikely pbk is the only online retailer to have been given an assured delivery date by shimano
if you want to there's no harm ordering, use credit card, they should not charge you until shipment, you can always cancel

True, but comparing Shimano to a tiny startup trying to bring a new category of power meter to market isn't apples to apples. Shimano announced the power meter in June 2016 with a spring 2017 target. By slipping to mid-Aug they've missed most of the 2017 racing season.
For me personally using DA 9150 with a Cannondale SiSL2 crank (with Stages) I'm finding the front shifting from small to big ring less reliable in race situations - works fine in the stand. I think this is most likely due to the tweaking of the 9100 crankset chainring distance and corresponding 9150 front derailleur changes eliminating the mechanical low limit stop.
Why don't you wait until Ray test this extensively? https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/09/pow ... ition.html

When powermeters are ready to ship, they'll be ready to ship in volume. You don't have to tie up funds or limit your purchasing ability when better deals may come along.
My concern here is that a powermeter is a lot more than a new pedal or derailleur. Even in the hands of the best of them, powermeters have missed targets by years. And this is Shimano's first. I'd want to see it out the door and in peoples' hands before committing. The new SRM is really superb and catches up on everyone else. There are new powermeters coming out right and left as well. A whole generation can come and go before a problematic powermeter finally makes it to market. And will it be totally reliable? Only a year or so of use will tell, a DCRainmaker review notwithstanding. Bear in mind that pro teams aren't even testing them seriously yet.

LOL. I have a Zone DPMX that I was sent as a 'consolation prize' when their Kickstater imploded and a bunch of us convinced(?) Barry to send the prototype units to the early campaign backers.
It's sitting in a box on my desk, untouched, as a reminder to *never* use Kickstarter again.
