Help Me Shaving some weight from my Colnago C60 50S, MFRD
Moderator: robbosmans
Im trying to shave some weight, so need ur help
In this moment bike is 7000gm with this components:
Frame: C60 MFRD 50S
Groupset: Full Campagnolo Record 2015, 172.5 crankset 52/36, except Cassette which is Chorus 11-29
Wheelset: Bora One 35 DarkLabel Tubular
Tires: Vittoria Corsa G+ 25 mm tub
Handlebar: Zipp Service Course SL-80 42cm c-c (hoods), 44 cm (c-c drops)
Stem: Fizik Cyrano R1 110mm -7 deg (in this moment testing 120mm)
Pedals: Look Keo Max 2 Carbon
Bottle Cages: Colnago Carbon
In the weight i listed there is also included Garmin front Mount, Garmin Cadence Sensor and Garmin Speed sensor
Im thinking this way to shave some weight:
1. Pedals - If i move to Look Blade 2 Carbon Ti i'll save 63 gm from the pedals i ride now
So the weight of full bike will be 6937 gm
2. Handlebar - If i move to Deda SuperLeggera Handlebars 44 O-O (42 cm center-center), i'll save 73 gm from the handlebar i ride now
If i go this way.. Which color to get to match best my bike? Black (im not sure if the decals are Dark Gray or White on this one), Polished Black on Black or RS new Version?
If i go this way i'l order Deda Zero 100 Stem in BlackOnBlack color. This will also save 3 gm from Fizik stem, but i'll buy just to complement handlebar
Other way is to get Easton EC90SLX3. I'll save same weight (73 gm), and this way will keep my old stem
Pedals + Handlebar will put my bike on 6864 gm
3. Deda Superleggero RS Seatpost - this will save like 35 gm from my Colnago Seatpost. And if i go this way, which color will match best? PolishedBlack on Black, or Black (still not sure are decals are DarkGray or White)
Seatpost+Handlebar+Pedals Total Bike Weight will be: 6829 GM
4. SuperRecord Cassette 12-29 - This Will shave 70 gm, but wont last as much as Chorus, and its most expensive way to shave 70 gm
Cassette+Seatpost+ HandleBar+Pedals Totaln Bike Weight will be: 6759gm
So what do u think? Any other suggestion?
So any other ideas?

A size 50s C60 with the very nice equipment level you have fitted to it already @sub 7kg is where it's at in my opinion.
If I were in your position I'd purchase a much lighter frameset to begin with and get weenie with that one and appreciate the C60 for it's all day kind of comfort in the mean time.

Only option is super expensive changes from here and on.
THM Clavicula SE
THM Tibia, MCFK Vorbau or Extralite Hyperstem
Haero carbon handlebar, MCFK or any light weight option
MCFK, Bike Ahead or Ax Lightness seat post
Unpadded saddle
1000g wheelset
From another perspective, if the bike is 7Kgs it's light enough?
Cost vs gains is probably more in your head.
Do you want the bike to feel more snappy and responsive?
Perhaps you should try the latest version of Mavic CCU.

I just upgraded the wheelset from Shamals to Bora One 35. Trying to dont overspend, but still get some weight.
I'l be satisfied if i reach 6800 gm, so after some googleing that how i picked the parts i listed.
So what do u think about that my idea?
It must match also in term of aesthetic as well, not just to be light
My point is that I don't see the C60 as a weight weenie frame, it's too heavy to start with. My experience is that seriously light weight finishing kit is not as comfortable to ride as heavier equipment - it often lacks vibration reduction qualities and often offers a hard and harsh ride, esp. on less than ideal road surfaces. Your build is already very nice - why compromise a ride that is already pleasing to you?
If you do what you have outlined above there will be enough discarded parts to half build another frameset. I'd keep the C60 as is and really go for a more radical light weight build with a frameset that weighs less to begin with then you can appreciate the difference between your C60 and and a weenie bike that might weight as much as 1kg less. That's what I did with my C50 when I had it.

I totally understund what u trying to say.. But i knew this when i was buying the frame, and also not trying to build super light, just 6800 gm.
What do u think about my listed parts?
Handlebar - Since i ride alloy handlebar, this will be not just upgrade in term of weight, but road buzz as well
Stem - Yes, this will be bined part (if i go Deda Zero 100 to match Deda )
Seatpost - Colnago seatpost will be stored, and Deda will offer me lighter weight and maybe a bit better seatback so maybe better power transfer to pedals?
Pedals - Also upgrade not just in term of weight.. Bigger surface, lower stack....
So not many binned parts, and still very close or exactly 6800 gm
Or lets ask this way.. What is negative side if i go with listed parts? (in term of performance, aesthetic...) (except money that i need to spend for that )

I personally would go for either Haero or MCFK handlebar and MCFK stem and seatpost.
MJB is right on, super light frames vibrate more no way around this.

G+ are heavy. G+ Speed will save you somewhere around 90-100g across the two tubs.
Be careful with the Deda Superleggera kit - the post has less setback than normal, and the bars less reach. Try Ritchey Superlogic for bars and post (or go Schmolke/Mcfk for another 100g or so). Don't forget to trim the post. Change the brakes to eeBrakes or Fibulas. Change the cassette to SR, or change the freehub to Shimano fit and use SRAM XG1190 cassettes (that's what I do and they seem to last well in addition to being very light). You don't mention skewers - Campag standard are heavy, so you might find some real savings with Tune U20 or Extralite Streeters. Don't forget the saddle - even a Selle Italia SLR Kit Carbonio might offer a real saving, never mind an AXL Leaf or a Berk special.
Otherwise you either spend properly - AXLightness or Lightweight wheels, THM cranks, Extralite or fibrelyte chainrings (I have the Extralite Octaramps and rate them, but you need a compatible chainset), or look at marginal gains - cable outer, cable inners (Ti or Powercordz, although I think both are stupid), lightweight bartape, bottle cage etc.

I'd actually advise against using any extralite chainring on the C60 if you're running a THM.. There is a reason why the M3 comes with praxis rings... I tried mounting a set of M3's/Extralite MC chainrings and I had bad chainskip... Eventually switched back to the praxis rings and all was solved.

I have some of the components that you mentioned (Deda Superleggera: Seatpost, handelbar and stem) on my C60 (48s, OFCG, 170mm, 50/34, full Campa 2015 Super Record mec.) and some others as follows:
- Lightweight Meilenstein Schwarz Edition clincher wheelset (1100 g)
- Veloflex tires (2x205 g)
- Time Xpresso 15 Ceramic pedals (2x67g)
- Selle Italia Flite Carbonio Flow saddle (170g)
Honestly, I took these components in order to enjoy them but not really because of the weight gain. So not really a big weight gain (the C60 is not very good at that exercise) but I do really enjoy having these nice components on my C60.
Meanwhile I have some more weight as I opted for a Power2Max powermeter (neither speed sensor) or cadence sensor needed anymore) and a K-Edge mount for my Garmin.

How much does the OP weigh.....what kind of riding conditions and fitness ....as that can greatly influence answers.
Not getting why you think its taboo to utilize lightweight components on a Colnago? Personally, I look at it as making good, better. You think, Carbonsports Lightweights, THM SE Cranks/brakes, ee, 3T LTD, AX-Lightness or MCFK cockpit is gonna really jeapardize the ride quality?MJB wrote:My point is that I don't see the C60 as a weight weenie frame, it's too heavy to start with. Spending $500-700 to save 200 grams is a waste of money IMO. Plus, you aren't really going to feel it on pedals/bar/stem/seatpost. If you were dropping 200 grams off of a wheelset then you might feel it.

+1 (except for the carbon handlebars compared to aluminum handlebars)
