I'm a bit of a tightwad and paying $300 for a rain jacket it just crazy in my opinion of course, especially considering I know a lot people who have various brands of expensive rain jackets with all the fancy jargon used to explain how the material breathes yet prevents water from getting in, yet the number one complaint is sweat.

Yet I found a $20 rain jacket that does not allow rain to get in yet has vents so it breathes as well as the expensive ones. The weird thing is, most pros ride on cheaper rain gear when training. Anyway, the one I have is no longer being made but there are others that look the same as what I have (I got my on a closeout for $12). I know MTB'ers that buy the cheap ones because if they crash and burn, or brush up against a throny bush they don't rip up or poke holes in a $300 jacket.

This one looks exactly like the one that I have with the same features: http://www.nashbar.com/webapp/wcs/store ... 1___204698

Another alternative, but this one doesn't mention vents but it probably has them but one would need to contact Nashbar to make sure: http://www.nashbar.com/webapp/wcs/store ... 1___204698

There are a lot of these low costing clear rain jackets that cost less than $40.

This one is highly rated: https://www.btwin.com/en/cyclist-equipm ... ellow.html

Of course the argue will always be, the cheaper ones doesn't last as long, assuming no damage of course, perhaps, but mine is 3 years old and still going strong, so let's say it last just 5 years, I could buy one every 5 years for the next 40 years and still be $100 less expensive than the $300 one that I know won't last 40 years, but this was just an absurd example, in reality I would be much further ahead then a $100.

I have yet by the way to get rain down inside my $12 jacket. The jacket I bought the manufacture made it a bit larger than a standard tight fitting medium, but this is good because for cooler wet rides I can layer up under it and then it fits perfect.

Ok, enough nonsense from the cheap guy, on to the expensive stuff because I know some guys wouldn't be caught dead on anything less than a $300 jacket.

Picked up the Oro today. Thought I'd be a small but the medium fits well while having enough room for arm warmers and being relatively easy to pull on. The zipper is a bit tricky to close but overall the quality seems high, and it's crazy light, like barely there. Will have to see how it does on the road but first impressions are very good. Oh and it's a bit cheaper than the other two jackets, so that's nice too.

I also have the Oro from 7 Mesh - seze medium is tight fit but ok on the bike.
On Rapha Pro team jeseys and jackets I am a size large.
On Castelli Gabba, I'm a size xl.
I'm in Belgium and ordered from their website, delivery by ups in only 4 days.

My idea was to use it with a short sleeve Gabba when it's starts raining very heavely or when it rains in summer.

Next time it rains, I'm going to put on my 20yr old one that looks just like the nashbar. I think it's still OK.

Not sure if mine will last 20 years, but even if it last just 5 years I'm still way ahead financially buying 4 $20 jackets for a total of $80 plus $20 for inflation brings it to $100 over 20 years vs buying a $300 one.

I've used cheap ones in the past. They breathe and fit as well as one would expect a $20 jacket to.

I don't about the one you had but my fits perfectly, and the velcro closure prevents any water from getting in. I've worn this in downpours plenty of time and never got wet inside. I haven't had any issues breathing wise, if it gets a bit warm I simply bow my arms out a bit to open up the vents more. If it's a hot downpour the sweat that was already on my bare arms before I put the jacket on will make the jacket cling to my arms, but I've heard that happens with the expensive ones. And this jacket packs smaller than other rain jackets.

I just moved to British Columbia in Canada (where it often rains), and I an using the following rain jackets:
- ONE GORE-TEX® Active Bike Jacket:
http://www.gore-tex.com/product/gore-bi ... 349254432/
- Castelli Tempesta rain jacket.
https://www.castelli-cycling.com/Produc ... 51017P-008

Both are excellent! the Gore Tex has a tighter fit however. Both material Gore Tex One and Event Castelli are really incredible!
Just wearing a base layer and a light jersey and that works for rain and temperature between 3°C and 18°C!
Both are expensive but if you have the money, they are worth it!

Does the Castelli Tempesta pack small enough stow indoor jersey pocket without being bulky? That is one of my main concerns about that jacket, looks great, have not seen it in person. Thanks

No! It is much more bulky than the One Gore Tex.

For that purpose take the ONE Gore Tex!

If the Gore One only came in a bright color,I'd be all over it. But black for a rain jacket on a bike just isn't safe in my opinion. I'm sure it's a great jacket. I'm waiting for the Sportful Hot Pack No Rain Ultralight jacket to be available, it's fluro yellow, just what I'm looking for on the bike.

The best merit of 7mesh is the fit, amazing attention to detail and the build quality of their products. If you ever try any of their products on you'll notice that they're a bit tight when you're standing up, but once you're on a bike they literally disappear on you. The GoreTex material they use on the Oro is amazing but when everybody is using the same material it's what you do with it that counts.

If you think the material is a bit fragile, check out the Resistance jacket. It's a slightly lower price point, has a stronger face fabric on it (still using GoreTex materials) and is in the region of 20g heavier.

Good tip! I I also wished the Gore-Tex would be in a bright color!

Just wondering why the Sportful Hot Pack No Rain Ultralight jacket is nowhere available??
