Lightweight wheels

I need a new set of wheels, and I'm interested in Lightweights. So I start flipping through the net, doing a little research--and imagine my surprise when I can't find an online outlet to buy them. Then, I can't even find a weight listing on this forum (which, by the way, is great!).

I know you guys like them; I've seen them on some of the lust-worthy photos you've posted. I live in Europe, so I need somebody who will mail here. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction? Or, how about other wheels I ought to check out?

The reason I need new wheels is because I had a spectacular crash yesterday. Picture it: vacation in the Ardennes Forest, the very routes of Liege-Bastogne-Liege. 8:00, I clip in on a sunny morning, warm in the sun, but cool enough in the patches of forest to need arm warmers. Nobody on these roads but me and a few early birds.

Then, wouldn't you know it, two hours into the ride, I'm carving downhill around a corner, and a pot hole just appears in front of me. I think it was magic; I'm not sure. I swerve to miss it and a car jumps out of nowhere! A small SUV, towing a horse trailer. We both slam on the breaks, do a little swerve-dance, then I hit him head on. Afterward, when we able to laugh about it, the guy in the truck said he wished he had a camera because I did a spectacular head over heals, across the hood of his car into the mountain-side. A bent rear wheel was the extent of the damage. I walked away with minor scratches on a knee, and a kink in my neck.

I tell the guy, “Hey, I’ve been wanting a new set of wheels anyway.”

Lightweight's are definitely the most "elite" wheel out there...They are the choice of so many professionals.

Until 2003, Lightweight's were manufactured under the name of "Dierl & Obermayer"; since they were getting rather old they were taken over by Carbon Fibre specialists, "Carbon Sports". The technology remains (almost) the same, with a few minor adjustments.

You can order them via www.carbonsports.de - Their online shop is still under construction, so it might pay to call them.

I was at the London Triathlon yesterday and one of the trade stands had a pair of lighweights hanging up, it was the first time I have seen them in the 'flesh' and I could do nothing else but stand and drool at them for the next half hour.

The pair I saw were the original pre-carbonsport lightweights, the guy on the stand was saying he has ceased dealing in lightweights since the change in manufacturer. "Carbonspoilts" was his exact words.

I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of or experienced a drop in the quality of these wheels since the changeover, especially as I was consisdering getting a pair for next year?

I think opposite. They have little improvements like valve tube,they are made with better machines and may be bit less hurry? And they weight less...

I like very much my pair. That 1140g pair in listings...I ride almoust every ride with them. Only group races with cheaper wheels...

I like them so much that I ordered new LW rear disk! I'm in a edge to order second front LW with 12 spokes for my TT-bike....it doesn't make sence since I have one 16 spoke f-wheel now but it would nice to have both bikes with LW's all the time. Nice look in garage... I fear I will make order for that 12 spoke wheel right after getting that disk...

There was only one UK dealer of Lightweights in the "pre-CarbonSports" time.
We quitted the cooperation from our side because of certain reasons.

We now have a cooperation with www.poshbikes.com and they will announce this very soon. Poshbikes already ordered a few sets and I suggest you go there and have a look at the "Carbonspoilts" wheels before you decide yourself.

I think the previous UK distributor was RBS imports, who used to equip lots of very nice Principias with LWs. But Sigma is the only UK shop I've ever seen carry LWs as stock items.

RBS were the people who wrote the customer leaflet saying that screw clamp magnets should not be used on the spokes. This advice has been changed by Carbonsports. I still prefer to tape mine to the spoke

Does anybody know how much P3 weights? Or P3SL? And will P3 be replaced by SL model or will there be both? And where price will go?

What size am I?
Even the best online fit is no match for a mediocre personal fit. There are
simply too many variables, so we need to see you in person to accurately
determine the size of frame you need. We are aware there are online sizing
engines, but we are also aware of the horrible results they sometimes produce.
There is no substitute for a good fit by a local dealer.

How much does it weigh?
Virtually all frames in the universe weigh between 2-4 lb. Cervélo frames are
no different. You add the same parts kit to each frame, the maximum difference
is still 2 lb. You add a 100-250 lb. rider, and the difference is still 2 lb.
Weight is only of limited importance to begin with, and these 2 lb. on a total
weight of bike and rider combined will not make any noticeable difference.

A second problem is that virtually everybody lies about their frame weights. So
we have the option of either lying as well, or being honest and appearing a few
ounces heavier than the lies from other manufacturers. Neither option is very
appealing.

So concentrate on what really matters (comfort, stiffness, durability,
aerodynamics) and rest assured that your Cervélo will be competitive in weight,
and superior in most other aspects.

I have now 3 pairs of Impact's (2X ti mag's and one S),LW's+ disk is coming,HED will replace my old 3TTT hero and Syntace is easy pick. Future is bright...?



If I stay on my old D-A TT set and forget SRM's I may find money to Cervelo...I have to try sell my Ti-TT frame in winter....I have now too much expensive bike crap (Deta TT bar,Ti cross frame+fork,D-A wheels etc) so I could make money from them. I have money always too less...
