Canyon's bike range expands even further with their new Ultimate CF EVOs https://www.canyon.com/evo/. They claim their frameset weigh 665 grams, 290 grams for the fork. The weight for size M it 1,7kg (I guess it includes the headset, their aero cockpit and the seatpost).

Featuring premium components from THM and Lightweight, they are available for purchase at https://www.canyon.com/en/road/ultimate/ - €13,000 for the Ultimate CF EVO 10.0 LTD and €10,000 Ultimate CF EVO 10.0 SL, which supposedly weighs less than 5kgs (size M). The framesets are also available, in both mechanical and electronic versions for €3,299.

Thoughts?

The frameset price seems pretty fantastic, but they put the weight for a size M electronic frameset as 1.68kg, which doesn't seem very light after breaking it down. Still, I'm sure there's much merit to the frame beyond light weight..

Yeah that's pretty odd. After taking the frame and fork weight out they're budgeting 750g for the bars/stem, post, headset and whatever hangers clamps and bolts weren't included in the frame weight. Doesn't sound right. Guess someone will just have to buy it and weigh it so we can find out for sure

Dang... This is done fairly correctly...

PRESS RELEASE:

KOBLENZ, 02.02.2017 — “How close can we get to creating the perfect road bike?” This was the question the Canyon Development Team posed themselves at the outset of the Ultimate CF EVO project. What they came up with is a groundbreaking 665 g frame and 270 g fork that do not compromise on the stiffness, comfort and durability that brought the Ultimate to the top step of Grand Tour podiums. With the new Ultimate CF EVO, Canyon has created their lightest, most technically advanced frameset ever.

From drilling holes in components, to the application of exotic metals and composites, lightness has been pursued as a key measure of road bike performance throughout the history of competitive cycling. In the 21st century, carbon blew the doors off all prior convention in bike design, opening roads for engineers to explore new forms and applications to go lighter than ever before. Low weight, however, was never the only advantage.

For over a decade, the Ultimate CF SLX has represented the pinnacle of Canyon road bike engineering. Uniting all key performance factors – unprecedented stiffness-to-weight, energy-boosting compliance, and watt-saving aerodynamic efficiency – the Ultimate CF SLX is heralded as one of the most complete road bikes on the scene. During the development of the latest 4th generation Ultimate CF SLX, Canyon engineers explored the potential of raising the bar of frameset performance to new levels. Combining their leading carbon expertise with state-of-the-art materials previously unused in the industry, they were able to create the Ultimate CF EVO.

The secrets behind its outstanding figures lie within an extensively optimised layup, consisting of ultra-high modulus pitch-based fibres that required special permission from the Japanese Ministry of Defence to access. These fibres enable the Ultimate CF EVO to deliver previously unheard of levels of stiffness and responsiveness at its incredibly low weight. Each part of the bike, from its fork to its seatpost to its integrated cockpit, has been subjected to the same tests and standards as the rest of the Ultimate range, to create a bike that is meant for the roads, not the trophy case.

The Ultimate CF EVO is more than just an ultra-lightweight road bike. It is a statement. It is proof of Canyon’s curiosity and commitment to pushing the limits of road bike technology and innovation in their pursuit of Engineered Perfection.

Canyon offers two factory builds, the Ultimate CF EVO 10.0 SL and the Ultimate CF EVO 10.0 LTD, that showcase what their flagship road bike is capable of. On top of this, the Ultimate CF EVO is also offered as a full frameset including H36 Aerocockpit CF and S15 VCLS 2.0 seatpost, giving riders a blank canvas to make their dream builds a reality.

Is this similar to Textreme, which IIRC is controlled and cannot be exported from US raw? If so, does this mean the bike must be made in Japan? And if that's so, the labor cost will be...

Fortunately they sell just the frame.

The spec for the full bike is pretty much a weight weenies fan favorite. Lighter wheels out there than the Lightweights, but still quite nice. Pricing for the full bike is quite attractive.

I'd reckon they've just had to declare its end use and that it'll not end up in other places...there were some export issues a few months back with some toho product going where it shouldnt have.

Textreme is an Oxeon spread tow product (swedish i think).

Would definitely be interested in one of the framesets if you weren't forced to buy the aero cockpit (ergonomics and fit don't work for me) and the V.2 VCLS seatpost (too springy).

A choice of a normal VCLS seatpost and stem only, as the framesets used to be supplied before last year, and I would be replacing my current CF SL.

Unfortunately not an option though, as confirmed with Canyon directly.

665g if it is remotely accurate (for a bare frame) and 3299 EUR price is quite a killer, given that, for instance, AX Lightness have just beefed up their 2017 Vial Evo Ultra up to 680g range while the price remains around 4000 EUR.
